Blaming Trump Lets Republicans Off the Hook (and Other Observations on a Pretty Good Election)

(Started writing this early in the week, but because Covid is still a thing, I've been back in Louisiana with to see a sick, hospitalized family member. Things are looking good now, but it was dicey. Get vaccinated. Wear masks. Do the shit you need to do.)

In the wake of Republicans having their raging red wave erections slapped flaccid by the firm, stinging hand of reality in the 2022 midterm elections, blame for this epic cock block has seemed to come to rest on one major cause: Donald Trump, who really was once president of the United States (something that still boggles my mind every goddamn day) and is still, to some, the de facto leader of the Republican Party. "A red wave of criticism crashes into Donald Trump after midterm losses," says the Washington Post, quoting current Republicans about how Trump's endorsements and his general Donald Trumpishness didn't help. The Guardian goes with "Republicans have someone to blame for their disappointing result: Donald Trump." And Fox Business quotes former Trump adviser Mercedes Schlapp, which is the name of a real adult human and not an SNL character or terrible branding exercise, saying that Republicans were being too hasty to blame Trump.

The problem, of course, is that blaming Trump is some cheap-ass bullshit. Oh, sure, Donald Trump always has and always will suck the hair off donkey balls if he thinks it can get him some attention and devotion (and cash). His ego is a black hole of need, and those who venture to the event horizon are almost always remorselessly sucked in and sucked dry. But Trump didn't force any of the candidates to buff his dickhead to a bright orange sheen. They all had a chance to bail on him after the January 6 insurrection, but they didn't. They fucking went along with whatever lies he wanted to tell. They went along for the ride, like the ass remoras they are, nourishing their ambitions from his free-floating verbal detritus. Republicans are to blame for Republicans fucking up the midterms.

snip//

However, the real problem isn't that Republican politicians suck. No, the actual blame belongs with their voters, as it always has. You don't get off the hook because you supported absolute garbage candidates like Blake Masters or Lee Zeldin or Kari Lake or Dr. Oz, for fuck's sake. Fuck you for being so gullible, so simple, so hateful that you'd rather put Doug Mastriano in office than someone who actually gives a shit about your problems, like Josh Shapiro (unless your "problems" include critical race theory and drag queens, in which case, grow the fuck up, you idiot children). Fuck you for thinking that Fox "news" and other assholes tell you anything about what the world is like. Kids claiming they're cats and shitting in litter boxes? Goddamn, how do you look yourself in the mirror and not laugh at how dumb and debased you are for believing things like that. Join reality or go live on fucknut island somewhere, unvaxxed and uneducated.

Blame them all, Trump, Republicans, their media, their voters, because they form a clusterfuck of insanity and degradation, a heaving shitball heading towards a cliff. 2022 was us stepping out of the way before it dragged us with them. We're not out of danger yet, but, goddamn, it sure feels like we dodged a catastrophe.

to a point. I am just fine putting the blame on Trump, he brought the terrible people out of the closets.

Let's cut off the head of the snake first and then see what the rest of the snake does next.

I was heartened to see election deniers concede that they lost. It is a start back to normalcy, you bet, we have a long way to go and the insurrection is still ongoing.

The big donors/advertisers thought they could control Trump and he would do what they wanted. He did give them the big tax cut they dream of. Republicans did their bidding and signed off on the Trump train. RW media did their part to create the us v. them, politics as a team sport, so their duped voters would support anything as long as it owned the Libs.

We need to make sure the RW media owns this and push for truth in News. No more saying, “We are ENTERTAINMENT” not news, when they call themselves “Fox NEWS”. That is a deceptive trade practice. No more court arguments saying, “No reasonable person believes Tucker Carlson.” Their viewers do believe that shite even if they are not reasonable. I suggest everyone go on YouTube and watch George Carlin’s “It’s a big club, but you’re not in it.” He described way back then what is going on.

To fix this crap we need to get the money out of politics and the truth in the news. Unless and until we do we will get the same dysfunctional crap we have been getting. The big donors are also the big advertisers. They control the politicians and the media (messaging) which in turn controls much of the brainwashed masses. This is why you won’t hear about this on the MSM. They are the recipients of all of that campaign money.

Fight for Publicly Funded Elections and truth in the news or we will lose everything!

We need to make Trump toxic, the truth of the matter is, everything Trump touches dies.

Absolutely agree about getting money out of politics. Sheldon Whitehouse can't even get the Disclose Act passed to shine a light on the dark money cockroaches.

democracy. He may be worse, in fact, as he is smarter than Trump and willing to push the norms of decency and the law to establish authoritarian rule. He doesn’t care what the voters want, just what he wants. That was shown when he totally neutered the voter referendum to allow convicted criminals to vote, which was overwhelmingly approved by voters. He is a big risk. I hope his smarminess comes though, but Republicans only seem to care about traits like mean, hateful, anti-LGBTQ, anti-everything decent people stand for.

Voters in other states correctly saw DeSantis' Florida as that "fucknut island...unvaxxed and uneducated" where the most extreme MAGA absurdities have taken root and are flourishing. I suspect most voters outside of Florida considered DeSantis' authoritarian rightwing rule as a national cautionary tale, something to be avoided at all costs.

It also made stops at Charlottesville, Ukraine, the Capitol and many others in between and since. It is not even certain that they are getting off here, they are only planting the seeds of the idea into the empty heads of the masses at this point. The only reason they are even considering the notion of dumping him is not over doing something more sexist, racist, illegal or treasonous it is simply for the crime of not winning.

Ike almost almost gets a pass but he gave us Nixon. This has been going on since I took my first breath in 1952.and it goes back to Harding in 1920. For the last 100 years all Republicans belong in the crapper for what they are and what they have done.

Certainly you had dog dick stupid Republicans here and there, but they seldom got elevated to such a high candidacy. There were garden variety idiots like Shrub and Quayle, but even those were rocket surgeons compared to Palin. The US has always had no shortage of idiots, but after Palin all the turds floated to the top and the GQP doesn’t have enough sense or class to flush.

Trump was an aberration. He was up front, though deflective by predictably obvious lying, with his general incompetence, cruelty and the arrogance of self-entitlement. Traits common to the GOP but mostly kept on the down low for the sake of appearance and electability. This array of sordid facts has been the "elephant" in the room at every party conference since 1872.

Romney, Murkowski, Collins, Sasse, Cheney (yes, that Liz Cheney), Kinzinger...they voted the party line..ignored the atrocities and the degradation of the presidency...they got their tax cut for the top 1% and their abortion ban...we praised their flashes of conscience only to have them revert to type..fuck 'em all...
