Early voting wont be allowed on a Saturday before the U.S. Senate runoff in Georgia because its the day after the state holiday formerly known as Robert E. Lees Birthday and two days after Thanksgiving.
...A Confederate holiday should not prevent the protection of democracy, which is called voting. That holiday needs to be eliminated, said Gerald Griggs, president of the Georgia NAACP, the nations oldest civil rights organization.
...For decades until late 2015, Georgia had a state holiday on the day after Thanksgiving memorializing Robert E. Lee, the Confederate general during the Civil War.
Gov. Nathan Deal changed the days name to a more neutral title, State Holiday, which is still observed on the same day of the calendar.

So the state law in Georgia requires in-person voting which will not be allowed on a Saturday because it's Robert E. Lee's birthday, a name they changed to State Holiday?

(53,841 posts)1. The racist fucks always come up with a way to stop Black people...
from voting. In other times IIRC, the Eisenhower admin and the courts sent Nat'l Guard troops to stop such blatant racism.

is that it's around Lee's birthday! OK, he grew up in Mississippi and Alabama and he associates the day with getting off from school.
