(17,399 posts)Every Democratic voter deserves a secret ballot.
But I definitely agree, getting rid of Iowas first in the nation status is a no brainer.

(145,553 posts)Texas had both a primary and a caucus. Hillary Clinton won the primary contest but President Obama got more delegates due to the caucus portion of the Texas two step. There are a ton of games that be played in caucuses to skew the results

(111,338 posts)while eating a corn dog. It's not that I want to abandon Iowa Dems, I've known and liked quite a few of them, it's just the over the top cornball kitsch that isn't fooling anybody.
Enough, already!
Democrats stop doing that shit and maybe they won't come across as such phonies to people in ag states.

(4,992 posts)Im no fan of caucuses. Its a quaint, pre-20th century practice.
And if the Dems want to start elsewhere, so be it.
But just remember, Iowa launched Barrack Obamas bid for the WH

(145,553 posts)Neither Iowa nor New Hampshire reflect the demographics of the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party was fortunate that President Biden was able to hold on until South Carolina stepped in and settled the primary process.

Michigan Democrats led by Rep. Debbie Dingell feel well positioned to join the coveted ranks of the early states, after they made huge gains in the Nov. 8 election. With Iowa facing possible eviction from the early states, many expect Democrats to elevate a Midwest state.
Democrats now have full control of the Statehouse in Lansing, which would allow them to easily change state laws to support a new date for the 2024 primary.
It does change the calculus, a Democrat with knowledge of the discussions among national party leaders who requested anonymity to speak freely said after Michigan Democrats claimed a trifecta in the governors office and the two legislative chambers. Michigan jumps over Minnesota, its just that simple. Minnesota was the fallback. Michigan is a key state. .....
Unspoken in her letter is that many expect Iowa, which is viewed as too white and too red, to lose its coveted first-in-the-nation spot. If so, there will likely be a desire to replace it with a Midwest state to complement the other three early states, which are currently New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.
