“Donald Trump blasted American Jews for failing to vote for Republicans in sufficient numbers,” Haaretz reports.

Said Trump: “You do have people in this country that happen to be Jewish that are not doing the right thing for Israel – too many. The Democrats get 75 percent of the Jewish vote, which is hard to believe. We can’t let that continue.”

Trump noted “all of the horrible things that have taken place with Biden and Barack Hussein Obama… and then it’s 75 percent of the vote.”

But he pointed out that American Jews are really between a rock and a hard place, especially with conservatives. If they care too much about Israel, that's suspicious and their Americaness is called into question. If they don't do what conservatives want when it comes to Israel, they're not real Jews, or stereotypes of their being sneaky betrayers are dog whistled.

Too many, we aren't Jewish Americans, we are Jews living in America, and there is a distinction. I have read time and time again, especially after close elections, people blaming Jews for their losses, and in a few cases, people complaining that not enough Jews voted for a candidate, despite the candidate winning! Of course, there is also the old chestnut, that Jews are "overrepresented" in Congress, and that is a problem.

Republicans, especially in the Trump era see Jewish voters as monolithic, only concerned about Israel. They think that support for the right wing government in Israel is the only thing that Jewish voters care about. They do not see Jewish people as a diverse group with many varying interests.

The reductive thought process of the Conservative movement and their political vehicle, the Republican Party, is what keeps both Jewish voters and Black voters with the Democratic Party. Democrats work to make government work for people with diverse needs and interests. Republicans try to use emotional appeals to peel those groups off.
