Acting on the impositions of the Iranian parliamentarians to impose stricter punishments on the protesters and to teach them an important lesson, the Iranian Parliament approved the death penalty for approximately 15,000 people with 227 votes out of a total of 290 members.
The lawmakers further added that punishment would "prove to all that life, property, security and honor of our dear people is a red line for this [Islamic] establishment and that it would show no leniency to anybody in this regard."
What's shocking and utterly disdainful is that among the arrested are hundreds of children - young girls fighting for their futures. Iran is one of the world's last countries to execute "juvenile offenders," with nine the age of criminal responsibility for girls, compared to 15 for boys.
But under Iranian law, you can't execute a minor if they're a virgin.
As per the reports by the BBC and Guardian, that roadblock has been solved in the past by marrying the girls off to prison guards to be raped the night before their murders - a practice that's been documented over the decades by journalists, families, activists and even a former leader.

(51,308 posts)Fascinating that you take something happening under another regime, a religious regime (not Christian) and somehow make it the fault of Christianity.
Why not blame THEIR regime and THEIR religious leaders? Hmm?

(2,292 posts)Not sure how you get an attack on Christianity from my post. It's about Christo-fascists. Also, the Christo-fascists in this country have called for killing our LGBTQI citizens. So no, I called out their religious leaders, but they are the same bent as the christo-fascists here. I will never stop calling them out till my dying breath.

(10,957 posts)To get around religious laws, (Do you really think your god is that stupid to be so easily fooled?) about murdering virgin girls in places like the Guardian and MSNBC. But they date back to the 2013 to 2018 or so. Supposedly they send the now dead girl's parents a marriage certificate and a box of chocolates or sweets.
I can't get over that they hold little 9 year old girls criminally responsible but boys not until they are 15. That means if a 9 year old girl is raped she can be executed for immoral behavior......not so much the rapist though. It's always the women in Iran who pay the price.
Ancient desert goat herders were big on female slave labor. It was the basis of polygamy and men's wealth.

(9,090 posts)'scholars' have debates about about. "right hand possesses" is interpreted to mean slaves, captives, concubines. so females are reduced to possessions and objects. that's what the taliban and other fundamentalists go by.
but what happens to the guys who can't afford a wife or slave, or aren't fighters that would capture such a sex object? it can't fit in a modern civilized world.
the real meaning of what the "right hand possesses" exposes the secret of authoritarian power. you should be celibate (riiiiiiight), but if you dooooo cheat, it has to be with the right hand, because that's sex on the wrong brain - how authoritarians are made - by connecting impatient satisfaction-demanding reproductive impulses with brain functions that need to be patient and objective. that creates greed, objectification, materialism, capitalism, - but worse, an irrational need for certainty that doesn't exist. that turns into fear, certitude, absolutism, fundamentalism, extremism, god-making, etc.
the koran puts the secret of authoritarian power and the fuel for centuries of war and destruction right there in black and white. the other religions just repress sex, and women/girls and reproductive rights and make sure the word "masturbation" is taboo.
that's what fuels the religious misogyny in iran. the alternative is democratic forms of organization that our incel taliban trumpers can't stand.

i haven't been listening lately. there are some death sentences and it might be the tip of the iceberg but it's the kind of thing republicans would use rw radio to blow up. if trump was in and they had both houses we'd have to get into the streets to stop them. maybe trump will mention it tonight. it doesn't matter how much they lie and exaggerate they just keep repeating until it's baked into the base as truth.
i hadn't thought of that, but that could happen for months and dem leadership would never know. they'd hear about it eventually but scratch it off as absurd as they usually do. that's why dems and left must start using AI to digitize RW radio.

(112,789 posts)Totalitarian majority Ismalic states all do this. The prohibition in Islam of executing minor girls is absolute. So they make sure they are forcibly "married" and raped before they kill them. It is a longstanding practice.
So what was supposed to protect girl children has just increased the viciousness of men, especially dictators, toward them.
Families losing their daughters in this horrific way are not going to be kindly disposed to supporting the Islamic revolution.
Those Mullahs have become far worse than the Shah. Eventually, that is going to cost them.

ISIS has released images that appear to show gay men being hurled off buildings and then stoned to death, part of the militants' self-professed mission to crack down on "sexual deviance."
The horrific execution tactic is the latest in a string of brutal punishment methods applied by ISIS under its strict interpretation of Islamic or shariah law, from crucifying Christians to stoning alleged adulterers to flogging young men for drinking.

Religion combined with state control is the root cause of this brutality. Some people fear that when combining religion and government in a theocracy that religion corrupts government. And some fear that government corrupts religion. They are both right.

There is no question Iran has a horrific human rights record and the arrested protestors and journalists are being treated horribly and will not receive anything like a fair trial.
The Iranian government is full of evil people and the protestors are incredibly brave and could, in some cases, end up facing a death sentence for political purposes. There is nothing good to say about it.
But Iran is not going to execute 15000 people. That is agitprop.

Editor's note: This post will discuss sexual abuse, rape, torture, and forced marriages.
As human rights protests continued to engulf Iran, the regime also continued to crack down, imprisoning thousands of people connected to the demonstrations. The protests were triggered in September 2022 by the death of Mahsa Amini (who was also known as Jina), a young woman who died after being detained by Iran's morality police for "improper hijab." In November 2022, the first known death sentence was issued to a person for taking part in the protests.
Recent viral posts on social media claim that 15,000 people will be "mass executed" by the regime to "send a message." Some posts also quote an article that stated, "Female prisoners who are virgins must be raped before execution, to prevent them from going to heaven."
Are 15,000 Protesters in Danger of Mass Execution?
Let's start with the claim that has been bolstered by the likes of Newsweek, Justin Trudeau, and others: that 15,000 protesters have been arrested and will be "mass executed." That claim has been debunked as false by a number of journalists and experts, including reporter Shayan Sardarizadeh of the BBC:
In early November, the United Nations estimated the number of detainees in Iran arrested over six weeks as being around 14,000. That number has likely grown, and, according to a regularly updated document compiled by the Human Rights Activists in Iran network, currently stands at 15,820.
