This "leak" of DoJ thought process regarding Trump's motive for criminal activity is highly suspicious. After "no leaks, no leaks, no leaks, no leaks" suddenly there's a leak regarding the state of mind of investigators/prosecutors that could point to no crime, no prosecution? We aren't stupid out here in the cheap seats.
The leak: It was for his EGO only that he stole and kept the top secret materials! Not for any business purpose! (Say, selling it off for $2B that's routed through Javanka)
That's the leak from DoJ yesterday. Setting us up for no prosecution.

(19,567 posts)If so, I agree. They're on record as being Trump friendly and I don't trust their framing of this situation.

So the reason matters quite a lot.

I don't know if it's FBI agents sympathetic to Trump, or from someone within Trump's circle, but he always seems to find a way to get things out that are usually favorable to Trump in some way.
He really has become Trump's Judith Miller.

(115,835 posts)The whole discussion is bullshit. It doesn't matter what TFG intended to do with the documents. He took and kept them and that's the crime.

(9,421 posts)If anything, this "leak" establishes a motive for the crime, nothing else.
In this context, what does "DOJ thought process" mean anyway?
Still illegal, and definitely punishable.

(9,421 posts)I am trying to understand your disagreement with "too early to panic". Are you suggesting that the leak can put an end to the prosecution or the establishment of a motive would put an end to the prosecution?
Bayard
(22,144 posts)What he did is illegal, and he needs to be prosecuted for it.
I'm not buying any leak theory either.
Beastly Boy
(9,421 posts)Neither the alleged leak itself, if indeed it occurred, nor any discussion of its content on any level, impedes or prevents DOJ from investigating Trump's crimes or indicting him.

In the Spring we were holding out hope by the 4th of July. In July we were holding our breaths before election season. In the Fall, we were sure that the ball would drop immediately following the election. What is our next magic date going to be? Christmas, New Years?
