Very enlightening. I was not tuned in to the lesser publicized events of Reagan’s career. The title is apt.

of that book is a pleasure to read. He is such a writer! This paragraph is from the "ridicule" chapter:

snip

Not so long ago, it was less than ideal for an American politician to seem like a dumbass. If a candidate’s stupidity became too glaring, the consequences could be dire: derision, contempt, and electoral oblivion. In this chapter, we’ll meet two men who traversed this minefield with wildly different results: the Goofus and Gallant of the Ridicule stage. Gallant is Ronald Reagan, whose talents distracted us from his ignorance. Goofus is Dan Quayle, whose ignorance distracted us from his talents. To this day, those talents remain unknown.

snip

Are you farther in the book? Does he have a theory on why republicans manage to elect such dumbasses?

Says the GOP learned they had to use coded language rather than outright racist language to push their agenda. Reagan set the stage for ignorance. The voters just got used to it. Initially ignorant politicians were ridiculed, then accepted, and finally celebrated. He recommends on the ground listening to people, don’t assume you have all the answers, grassroots GOTV efforts

So that is the origin of their code speak. I was wondering about that the other day--about when they started using coded language and symbols.

I have heard successful Dem candidates from the midterm tell about how they went to every part of their district and spoke to people. I know it does make a difference, as I have heard so many voters remark, "Oh I met him when he/she...." There is no substitute for the one-to-one candidate.

And didn't Fetterman make it a goal to visit every county? Seems like I saw that on television.

It is also the one thing that defeats disinformation, if they can get "mentally infected" to the speaking engagement in the first place. Seeing the demonized as an ordinary person goes a long way.

A butt load more Vaseline on the camera lens to hide the wrinkles from this anger. May need some axle grease. Those wrinkles of hate will never buff out. Maybe she can inject some of trumps fat ass in her face. Just sliding her head up there does not work.

You would not. My wrinkle fix was only sarcastic absurdity. Wood putty works really well. But the sanding down hurts.

Time is not her friend. Neither is her mirror. Makeup won’t help, for long. And a friendly facelift or “touch-up” may start out okay, and work wonders for a few months, until gravity takes over and has the last word. No matter how many little “fix-its” she gets. She’ll be on a surgical table to hag-hell.

Refusing to concede defeat, Lake instead lashed out at the woman who had just vanquished her. “Katie Hobbs is totally unqualified to lead Arizona into the nineteenth century,” she said.
