on edit to add:

With those taxes we had the best infrastructure and one of the best educational systems in the world.. Then they started giving it away to big business and depleting the middle class til we got where we are today, infrastructure falling apart and education almost non-existent..

We also used to tax inherited extreme wealth, and ALL extreme wealth was taxed at about 90%.
