2. They very well could be the difference in the Warnock-Walker run-off.p

Georgia doesn't do registration by party, but I suspect that republicans greatly outnumber Democrats. I think Biden, Ossoff, and Warnock won in 2020 with the help of independents and never-trumpers.

the inference seems to be that - if the GOP voters ever regain their senses and the "Never Trumpers" return to the GOP, future elections will reflect a significant majority of Republicans in this country. I just don't understand it.

5. I am similarly perplexed, so many seem to vote GOP in direct opposition to their long term interests

I keep thinking it is one issue voters-- gun rights, abortion, taxes, immigration or whatever-- that despite all the rest that is bad for them from the GOP, they pull the R lever anyway.
