Trump is not under investigation because he's a Republican. He is being investigated for his crimes, not his political affiliation.
The Jan-6 insurrectionists are not being charged/convicted of being Trump supporters, but because they broke the law. Again, their politics have nothing to do with where they now find themselves.
To put it in very simplistic terms (which seems necessary when explaining anything to MAGA-loons), no rapist caught in the act has ever avoided conviction on the grounds of political persecution. No pedophile has ever used being targeted because they're a Republican as a defense in a court of law. No murderer has ever stood trial while claiming that he was only arrested and charged because he belongs to a particular political party.
The idea that investigating those who broke the law is merely a political witch-hunt is beyond ridiculous. Breaking the law is what it is - and pretending that it has anything to do with politics is the last desperate gasp of a party that has no morals, no principles, and literally nowhere else to turn.

(82,849 posts)Well, we do, but that's not the reason he's being investigated and (hopefully) prosecuted. It's because - unlike the former guy - we respect the Constitution and the rule of law. Like Barbara Jordan, our faith in the Constitution is whole; it is complete; it is total. The former guy's faith is encapsulated by the common area north of his wallet and south of his dick.

(11,885 posts)To grift money from his followers who accept his lies , and to file lawsuits to delay, and to use his supporter ( or blackmailed ) members in Congress to create chaos for him. He always claims what he does, or has done, which is politicize the DOJ as an excuse when his crimes are being investigated, but not for any others that oppose him.
