Less than 24 hours after it became official that the Republican Party would now control the House in 2023, they held their first press conference to warn America that they were about to roll up their sleeves and solve America's problems! You might be wondering how they plan to do this. Are they going to propose a policy to tackle inflation? No. Are they going to make sure these electionsthose they keep denying are realare more secure? Nope! Are they going to launch a federal investigation into President Joe Bidens son, Hunter Biden, because of his experience with addiction? Yes.
Thats what they are going to do. They also made it clear that this would be the GOPs jumping-off point to investigate just about everything unrelated to policymaking they can find.
According to the Republicans on the dais, there is a very compelling case against Hunter Biden and governmental corruption. So why dont we look at the case against the Bidens.
First, we have these devastating images worthy of indictment against Hunter.

(3,182 posts)Hunter is in some real legal peril here. Unless you think he is completely innocent. In my opinion, he cannot simply explain some of these deals away.

(10,053 posts)do so other than causing embarrassment for President Biden and try to weaken him for 2024. If Hunter is guilty of some crime, the DOJ will prosecute. It will be Benghazi all over again, with multiple hearings just for political theater.

(3,182 posts)You would think they'd either drop it or move to indict. I'm not so sure they will prosecute the President's son. What do you think?

(70,567 posts)A New Report Adds Evidence That Trump Was a Russian Asset
He helped Putin manipulate the U.S. election in 2020, as he did in 2016.
(this report was from the senate intelligence committee which at that time was run by republicans)
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2021/03/trump-russian-asset-election-intelligence-community-report.html
As to Russia, the report leaves no doubt: In 2020, as in 2016, President Putin authorized, and a range of Russian government organizations conducted, influence operations to help Trump and hurt his Democratic opponent. For example, Shortly after the 2018 midterm elections, Russian intelligence cyber actors attempted to hack organizations primarily affiliated with the Democratic Party. Then, in late 2019, Russias military intelligence service, the GRU, conducted a phishing campaign against subsidiaries of Burisma holdings, likely in an attempt to gather information related to President Bidens family. Throughout the 2020 election, agents connected to the Russian Federal Security Service, FSB, planted negative stories about Biden. Internet operatives working for the Kremlin, including the troll farm that had boosted Trump in 2016, continued to promote Trump and his commentary, including repeating his political messaging.
Attacks on Biden and his son, Hunter, were part of this operation. Through US officials and prominent US individuals, some of whom were close to former President Trump and his administration, the report says Russias intelligence services repeatedly spread unsubstantiated or misleading claims about President Biden and his familys alleged wrongdoing related to Ukraine. In this way, Trumps circle laundered the Russian-planted stories, which were then recirculatedand promoted by Russias online proxiesas American news.

(6,600 posts)...including running the global trademark licensing program for a popular & well-known set of trademarks, which at least 90% of you (perhaps 100% of you) have in your homes, it still pains me how many people don't understand the concept of defensive trademark registrations, & are steadfastly determined to purposefully not understand the concept of defensive trademark registrations.
What is a defensive trademark registration? It's when you register your trademarks in territories for classes of goods & services (COGS) that you have no intention of making, but you do it to prevent other companies in those territories from registering the same or similar trademarks in those COGS, which would imply that they're your products, when they're not. It's purely defensive & it's done all the time.
For example, our trademarks applied mainly to consumer & professional electronics technologies, but we had a laundry list of trademarks registered in China (& elsewhere around the world) for things like clothing & furniture, things we didn't make, purely as defensive registrations to ensure that no Chinese company could register similar trademarks in those COGS & create market confusion & trademark dilution by implying that they were our products.
If anyone is involved in politics & has a brand (for example the "Trump" brand) any brand manager who isn't a total idiot would advise them to make defensive trademark registrations for things in politics-related COGS like voting machines, to prevent a Chinese company from selling "Trump Voting Machines." This is standard business practice by any smart brand/IP manager & it's done all the time. It would be IP mismanagement & malpractice if they DIDN'T do it.
Which is the source of my frustration. I know Trump is slimy & there may be more to the registrations than standard everyday good IP management, & if there's something nefarious then YES I want to know about it, but I & my company & thousands of other American companies have spent decades doing the exact same thing... so are we all automatically involved in some evil plot with China? The number of people who just jump to that conclusion without understanding the reality of the situation, while showing absolutely no desire to understand the situation, is what is truly distressing.

(1,766 posts)would get the laptop thrown out as evidence over the glaring chain of custody problems it has. No telling what happened to it between Hunter supposedly dropping it off until it got into the hands of a legit investigator. Too many people with a motive got their grimy hands on it in between.
Without the laptop, the case will fall apart.
I don't think Hunter Biden did anything other than what children of well-connected people have also done. The r thugs are simply being their typically whiny, desperate and dishonest selves.
