(8,276 posts)the 40s. She had fallen outside on icy grass and was lying there for hours.
I was one of the 8 closest neighbors. 300 yards or so.

(6,017 posts)It doesn't get down to freezing often, maybe a dozen nights in December and January. But we've crossed the threshold into the start of an era of chaotic weather, so I would expect more "hard to believe" reports in the future.
But also, there are many places in California especially in the valley, the mountains to the East and along the Northern coast that have snow every year.

(6,017 posts)I dated someone from Sonora many, many, many years ago (I think I was 20 and Sonora was a tiny little mountain town) but still just did a quick Google lookup without thinking about the results. My apologies!

(9,847 posts)It was 34 the other morning when I woke up. Forecast to 32 for tonight. I'm next to Napa.
It isn't super unusual - we have cold periods like this pretty much every winter. But people think California = warm and forget it can be dangerous to those who cannot afford heating or do not have it on overnight. We don't have our furnace on overnight, and this house is icy in the mornings.
Check your peeps.

(1,490 posts)Santa Rosa and it is predicted to be 29 degrees tonight. Having enduerd many Scandinavian minus 30 centigrade winters I don't complain.

(19,259 posts)right now. It'll dip down to a low of 16 degrees tonight, then a gradual warm-up to the low 40s on Thanksgiving Day.
With winter still a month away, I've got a feeling this winter will be one for the record books.

That was 40-50 years ago.
Usually by Thanksgiving, it was pretty bad.

(7,832 posts)that's why they call it Montana because I live in the Bitterroot range of the Rockies. It's been winter for a couple of weeks. Getting up to 20 or so during the days. Early for it to be this cold but certainly not weird. If anything, we have been having much warmer weather and more rain in Western Montana but on the Highline and plains, Montana is in severe draught. We moved back to Montana from North Central Oregon where our summers were typically getting up to 105 and even 110. I'm in my 70's and realized I could take the cold and even the rain increase here outside of Missoula much easier than I could take +100 for months on end. So glad we moved home.
Miss the trips to the Oregon Coast but don't miss 110F even one tiny bit!!!!
