General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am tired of all the hate in this nation! WTF is wrong with people?
The past decade has been disgusting to say the least. From the frikken maga groups to the damn hate groups in Charlottesville, to the cop kneeling on George Floyds neck, to the shooting in Uvalde and all those children murdered and now this in Colorado Springs with the mass killings in the LGBTQ bar. Pardon me but what the actual f#ck is going on!
I can understand to a point how we got to where we are but the bigger question is when will all this hate shit stop! There seems to be an endless stream of idiotic, gullible, psychotic pricks among us with no end in sight to this madness. Our children, loved ones and fellow man are being slaughtered in the name of what?? I thought this was supposed to be a Christian nation so please explain to me how Christ would be pleased with all this killing and hate. I believe in Christ as well and sure as hell was not taught or brought up like the mindless killers we have today. FFS I feel bad if I swat a fly or accidentally hit a squirrel while driving.
It's like somehow, over time, we have witnessed the dehumanization of mankind to where no ones life matters at all other than our own. Thankfully you here are not like this and neither am I. Most of us are lifelong Democrats but of course we are not perfect in everything but thankfully a vast majority of us are not like these people filled with hate for the sake of hate.
Allow me to be clear, I do not hate tRump or republicans, I do despise them. Big difference. Having never owned or wanted a gun I sure as hell wouldn't run around shooting people for anything I dint like.
Perhaps we need more teaching in schools because obviously way too many parents are setting bad examples and passing on racism and bigotry to their children. We are all born color blind so this and all the other hate bullshit is learned behavior. It has got to stop.
I will end my rant here before I really start swearing. I'm just sick of turning on the television and seeing some hateful bastard(s) have done something horrific.
To the shooting victims and their families in Colorado Springs, I am deeply sorry you have to suffer this.

It's constantly reinforced and they never hear anything else.

resembles multiculturalism.
School Boards are ground zero right now.
Very few people vote in school board elections.
The thugs have run circles around us in bottom up governance. We are now reaping that whirlwind.

(1,996 posts)But I would think an overwhelming majority of teachers would want to teach multiculturalism. It serves us all in the end to get along and work together.

NEW YORK TIMES and MIBA BESTSELLER
From the St. Louisbased journalist often credited with first predicting Donald Trumps presidential victory.
"A collection of sharp-edged, humanistic pieces about the American heartland...Passionate pieces that repeatedly assail the inability of many to empathize and to humanize." ― Kirkus
In 2015, Sarah Kendzior collected the essays she reported for Al Jazeera and published them as The View from Flyover Country, which became an ebook bestseller and garnered praise from readers around the world. Now, The View from Flyover Country is being released in print with an updated introduction and epilogue that reflect on the ways that the Trump presidency was the certain result of the realities first captured in Kendziors essays.
A clear-eyed account of the realities of life in Americas overlooked heartland, The View from Flyover Country is a piercing critique of the labor exploitation, race relations, gentrification, media bias, and other aspects of the post-employment economy that gave rise to a president who rules like an autocrat. The View from Flyover Country is necessary reading for anyone who believes that the only way for America to fix its problems is to first discuss them with honesty and compassion.
Please put everything aside and try to get ahold of Sarah Kendziors collected essays, The View from Flyover Country. I have rarely come across writing that is as urgent and beautifully expressed. What makes Kendziors writing so truly important is [that] it . . . documents where the problem lies, by somebody who lives there.―The Wire

(100,081 posts)When you have nothing but hate, lies and bullshit being fed to you 24 hours a day, this is what happens. The GOP used to have standards. Look at Eisenhower, for instance. Though he would never be elected in today's GOP. Today's GOP only wants someone who will amplify and give credit to the hate propaganda that's being fed to them. People let Fox and AM hate radio do their thinking for them.
The propaganda is a huge part of the reason why we're in the mess that we're in. I can't think of one problem that we currently face that isn't the result of endless lies. And what the parents watch and listen to absolutely has an effect on the kids. Like if the parents watch Fox and listen to Limbaugh, don't be surprised when their kids grow up to be gun toting neo Nazi lunatics who have a grudge against the government.

(43,190 posts)The Reformation, equally as well as the internet, stirred up the pot of ideas. Everyone is in mental conflict, whereas previously there was peace. The Reformation began the 30 Years War, a religious conflict perpetuated by leaders of the time - heads of state. Many ordinary Europeans, particularly in Germany where much of the fighting took place, began migrating to the New World.

My point being ideas, the means of violence, produce conflict. But today, we have insurgency - random violence in civil society. This is the new normal. It may not change a lot for several decades.

(73,559 posts)Thank you for this. On Saturday, on an internet boxing forum I inhabit, a member posted a picture of Martin Luther King, Jr., and a few paragraphs about his concerns with the US today. He noted that he wished that King were alive today, to lead us.
I responded that part of King's genius was his understanding that if you want people to act differently, you first must make them think differently. I'm paraphrasing Malcolm X there, as both he and Martin knew this.
I am less troubled by the hatred of republicans -- although I'm 100% troubled by it -- than I am by what I see among Democrats including on this forum. I'm planning to write an essay on what it means to honor King in our thinking and behavior. I have no doubt it will sink like a rock with a brick weighting it down, of course.

But it's a giant leap from hating someone to risk going to jail in order to kill them.
How does anyone make that leap?

(1,955 posts)started the day Obama was elected. They absolutely could not handle a black man as president. Hell, they even started shooting little kids in schools because of it. Racism is so thick in this country, but its hidden under smiles and statements of "I'm the least prejudice person you could meet".

(1,996 posts)I've been telling anyone that will listen that the problem for many whites is we had a black man in the White House for eight years and millions lost their damn minds about it and getting even for it now.
Solomon
(12,311 posts)That's the problem. Some whites, not all, but a lot of them, have severe issues with the idea that whites will become a minority in this country, and they will lose their privileged status.

(1,955 posts)will again bite them in the ass. they want to outlaw abortions, so now just a select clinics around the nation can do the procedure. A rich white girl, poor Latino girl, and a poor black girl want an abortion. Which of those three will be able to get jetted away to get the procedure?
In the end, their policy will only increase the non white population, because of lack of funds to get the procedure done by minorities.
I've always said this, repubs can't think more than 5 minutes into the future.

A majority is being tyrannized by a crazy populace and the very imperfect system here wont allow any real change or do anything to stop it.
The mass murderer who posed as a prez, who is still walking free after murdering over one million Americans and numerous other crimes such as trying to stage a coup and is now running for prez AGAIN. America you have FAILED. Failed is too good a word.
