I thought they were voting to end it?

(10,434 posts)I don't know why they let that die. Never heard any explanation.
it was a win-win and would show the Dems do things that affect everyone's lives. It's a simple narrative they could sell.

(16,199 posts)I think just ending DST and staying on Standard time would win more support.
And I say this as someone who lives in New England, where the sun would rise at 4:00 AM in June on Standard time. I like DST for that reason.

(68,586 posts)during the winter months causes quite a bit of depression and it would save quite a bit of energy too. The lights are on much longer after DST ends.

(11,631 posts)As a farmer who also works full time off the farm I really really hate when DST ends. From November through March I get home to the farm with barely any time to take care of outdoor responsibilities. I would guess most people living in rural areas across the country would prefer permanent DST. It simply makes a larger percentage of the day usable throughout the year.

(2,164 posts)It was passed by accident, to the horror of both parties, and got sent back for some "fine-tuning" until everyone forgets about it.
Then we can devote all of our attention to the war in Eastasia, with whom we have always fought... 🤔

(4,616 posts)On Tuesday, the Senate unanimously approved the Sunshine Protection Act, which would end the practice of changing the clocks twice a year by November 2023 and bring peace to those Americans whose serotonin crashes when it gets dark in the middle of the afternoon for no good reason at all.
Great for early birds, not so great for gardening night owls.
Around here I even hear people running their lawnmowers in the dark.

(68,586 posts)Ohio. It is dark here by 530. by next month it will be before 5:00. In Connecticut and Pennsylvania, it was 4:30 in December. No, doubt it uses more energy than if we were on Daylight savings time all year. I hate it when we lose Daylight Savings time. It causes depression and means elementary kids can't even go out and play after school.

(5,551 posts)This time. And never brought it up for a vote, that's ok, we can always do it at another time.

(33,587 posts)doing things that directly affect the lives of everyday workers should be done. I know infrastructure and health care are more important, but they are more complicated, this was an easy win, and saying "we have more important things to do" makes us sound elitist.

(38,317 posts)Just as people adapt to the seasons being opposite in the Southern Hemisphere, they'd adapt locally to universal time. We don't rename the months to correspond with the seasons in the Southern Hemisphere, December is December everywhere, so why not do the same with clocks?
It would get rid of a lot of silliness and confusion.

(7,754 posts)going to full time DST is very popular. If you happen to live in a valley, it can start to get dark at about 3:30 and be fully dark by 5. Very depressing.
