I received a phone call From Darian of the Police Action Fund this weekend soliciting for a donation.
Darian: "I'm asking to see if you are willing to help us out, after the recent elections...blah blah blah...radical Democrats...blah blah blah...wanted to defund the police...blah blah blah...back the badge...blah blah blah..."
Jimbo: "What about on January 6th when the police were protecting the Capitol? Who was backing the badge then?..."
pause...pause...pause
Darian: "I'm just asking to help us out..."
Jimbo: "You call me at home on the weekend with your political charged rhetoric, asking me for money. Why should I give you money? I don't think so."

It's time to stand up to people like this and challenge them.

(1,497 posts)I got really annoyed at one those callers when he used the same phrase - defund the police. I just shot back that nobody is talking about defunding the police and it was the Dems who got more funding for 9/11 first responders, etc. I was sputtering mad. The tone gets me, as well - usually a gruff male voice. Intimidation is the tactic.
I don't know why they think people believe their bs, although I'm sure there are those who buy it.

(488 posts)When I get calls to donate to our local Minneapolis police fund, I just repeat the words George Floyd over and over until they hang up.

(4,616 posts)calls all the time to. My response if always "The police are funded with taxpayer money, why are you soliciting me for a donation and what is that donation used for?" Followed by, sell off some of that military grade shit you got for free, also compliments of taxpayer money and leave me alone. I think police donation solicitation should be illegal. It's akin to the county tax accessor asking you for a donation. FOR WHAT?
