They had a dog in the house. The dog was not harmed. The dog apparently did not bark at the intruder(s). 2 students slept through the attack and were not harmed. I think the dog may have recognized the attacker.

(6,544 posts)It seems pretty clear that the attacker had been there before and presumably knew one or more of the victims

(7,772 posts)Five young women, three killed, two not home, and one male killed who was staying over with his GF.
So, the dog could have been barking, or cowering.
Sounds like a Richard Speck to me.

"Authorities have confirmed that two additional roommates who have not been identified were home during the attack but slept through it and were unharmed."
Then again, with today's media . . .

(45,491 posts)security systems were. Whenever they encountered a dog, they'd throw the dog a pack of hot dogs and go about their business. When they left, they'd go, "c'mon boy" and the dog would jump in the van with them. It was the most hilarious part of the show.

(6,907 posts)We had a German shepherd dog. My mother left a pot roast in the crock pot and we went somewhere. While we were gone a guy broke in and stole some of my dads guns. He dumped the post roast on the floor where it was eaten by the dog. I know this because my mother talked about that pot roast and that damn dog for the next 40 years, rest her soul.

Gregory: The dog did nothing in the night-time.
Holmes: That was the curious incident.

(4,787 posts)source of the city's economy. An unsolved vicious murder of 4 students is going to cause parents/prospective students to wonder if it's safe to go there. They're not slow-walking this to cover anything up.
One problem might be is that the last murder in the town occurred 7 years ago. They have 4 detectives, some of whom may have never investigated a murder before, much less something like this. The FBI is now assisting them, so hopefully they'll make some progress.
