For The Next CongressTopline
Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) said he will not vote for Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as speaker of the House, making him at least the fifth member to indicate opposition to McCarthys speakership bid, Politico reported, as the House prepares to select its next leader on January 3 when the new Republican majority takes office.
Key Facts
Norman said Tuesday he was a hard no when it comes to voting for McCarthy, joining other House Freedom Caucus members who have come out against McCarthy as the right-wing faction seeks to negotiate demands in exchange for votes.
Norman reportedly said he decided not to vote for McCarthy this week after McCarthy said he disagreed with the Republican Study Committees plans for curbing the national debt, which includes raising the minimum retirement age and allowing Medicare recipients to receive subsidies they can use to buy private insurance.
Norman joins Republican Rep. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), who is running against McCarthy for the speakership, and Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fla.) in pledging to vote against McCarthy, while Reps. Matt Rosendale (Mont.) and Bob Good (Va.) have publicly doubted McCarthys ability to lead the Republican conference.

(21,111 posts)Can the Democrats talk some saner republicans (if they exist) to caucus and give the Democrats control of the house?
But it will be delish to see the repukes fight and destroy each other!

Yes yes, probably a fever dream

(10,132 posts)vote for Hakeem Jeffries. If these GOPers want to stomp their feet and hold their breath until they turn, um, blue, fine with me. AFAIK there's no reason why the Speaker can't be from the minority party

(2,331 posts)Things need to pass the house to keep the lights on. These maniacs can't govern.
Thankfully, in 2016-2018 they got the tax cuts passed and that is about it. They are unable to govern.

If they create a crisis with those things, you may see the Republican Party slit its wrist politically forever.

(218 posts)their plan is to shift the debt obligation from the ones who created it, the morbidly rich and Americonglomacorp, to retirees and Medicare recipients. Once again, they want to take our gold mine and give us the shaft. I trust someone with a megaphone in the media picks up on that little admission. They keep admitting how they intend to phuck everything up and screw up the economy. Why doesn't the MSM believe them? Access.
PS Those 'hard' noes will be soft yeses and blown kisses after McCarthy makes his deals. It's all a game to them. It's performance art. They are not serious people, they are dangerous people.

Yeah! I know. Horrible thought.
Would that put the 5 or so repubs on the spot?
Incompetence. Republican incompetence.
