(111,338 posts)He might not like it when engineers tell him something can't be done, let's try something else, but he doesn't fire them and threaten their families over it.
Nope, what being on the spectrum means is that he has no idea what makes other people tick. That's why people around him treat him differently from other billionaires. He might seem childlike at times, but that isn't the true picture. He just processes things very differently from other people.
He certainly knows how to hire engineers who dazzle him with brilliance rather than baffling him with bullshit.
I wouldn't think he'd be a hands on rocket designer. I doubt that was his focus in engineering school.
(Is he difficult for neurotypical people to work with? Hell to the yeah. Is he a TFG? Nope)
Astute observation. Quite the simile.
Sad but true.

(14,587 posts)Walter D. Wales was a Dean of Physics in that school. Timelines match for their tenures.
The part at the end reads: We have admitted him as a Bachelor of Arts and have gladly granted him all the rights, honors and privileges pertaining to this degree, in witness whereof we have subscribed our names on the 19th of May in the year of Salvation 1997 and the founding of the University of Philadelphia 265. This Degree has been conferred with honor.
I also searched for sample images of U Penn degrees and this one matches the format and Latin verbiage.
Following this, I went to the U Penn catalog and indeed astronomy and physics is in the letters, arts and sciences department, though I could not see if completing the program (which was hard-core math and science as one would expect) yielded a BA or a BS degree. Couldn't find that.
So, bottom line, while I must admit it COULD be a forgery, it seems legit.
This is not to say that Musk doesn't have the emotional maturity of a pre-pubescent, but the degree DOES seem legit.

(14,587 posts)The concept of 'managing up' is an old one, and it is a necessary skill in any organization. The people on the ground, running whatever process, must help the managers understand what they are doing, why they are doing it, and what specific things the manager can contribute to boost results. This is 'employment 101,' or WAS BEFORE THE PANDEMIC and before labor scarcity of technically skilled people became acute.
Now, workers for the first time since Reagan slithered into the White House, or even before that, to the passage of the Taft-Hartley Act that essentially isolated unions into separate less-effective groups by forbidding sympathy (general) strikes, have the power to PUSH BACK for higher wages, better benefits, and better working conditions.
I for one am very happy to see this pendulum swinging back, and we are seeing what is happening nationwide in companies like Amazon and Starbucks in STARK RELIEF at Twitter because Musk is, well...emotionally immature.
Maybe with Trump, and now Musk, people are finally getting the idea that these hubris-laden people have been wantonly destroying whatever they touch. With Trump the republic, and with Musk Twitter.
Fun post. Thank you for sharing it!

(113,550 posts)And egoloon did NOT "found tesla", he bought into it after its founding by using money from selling his share of paypal. A lawsuit allows him to call himself a co-founder, but he is not.
*that ridiculous story about one person shoving the money into the safe as the other slams it shut?? Good way to lose fingers.
Egoloon did not found paypal, either.
