Telling kids Santa is a myth while telling them Jeezus is real - Well, I'm going with Santa on this one and I still want my Red Ryder BB rifle.
More info:
In December 2016, David Grisham accosted a group of children and their parents who were waiting to see Santa Claus at Westgate Mall. A recording he made of the incident shows him being confronted by several parents. Grisham also posted a video showing a mock execution of Santa Claus by shooting.

(2,195 posts)I enjoyed Christmas as a child, with all the trappings of Santa, etc, and raised two children who enjoyed it as well and grew up to be rational secularists.
It is interesting to note however that, in addition to Santa being a brand ambassador for capitalism, he has also evolved for some into something akin to "God with Training Wheels."
He sees you when you're sleeping, knows if you've been bad or good and will subject you to consequences.
I like the whimsy of the season, despite Santa sometimes being used as an agent of authoritarianism.

(57,181 posts)We need to remember he wanted the children to come to him willingly. He brought out the best wine at the wedding. That he laughed and joked with fishermen, carpenters and everybody else. He saved his righteous anger for church authorities.
What is wrong with this preacher? He sees the mote in other's vision while ignoring the log in his own eye.

Asshole doesn't realize that he is one of the major reasons both church attendance and people who identify as Christians are plummeting to all time lows.

(26,289 posts)I think that's a huge mistake. They don't celebrate Christmas and now refuse to visit over the holidays because we do.
It's sad, too, because when he was a child we used to really have a great time at Christmas. We weren't big gift givers - just something meaningful. What we did was enjoy food, drink, laughter and sharing great memories. It seems that after his mom, my sister, died he decided to wipe all happy family memories and traditions out of his head. She would be very saddened by this.
She's going to be 7 on New Year's Day. She's got friends. She's taking it all in. She's also missing out on some wonderful memories.
And, btw, I was raised in a religious home but still had absolutely no problem understanding both the religious and secular Christmas celebrations.

(38,326 posts)None of the adults in our family agreed when, if, or how Christmas ought to be celebrated. I had but one grandma who celebrated the "traditional" Christmas of 1960's television.
My mom was a Jehovah's Witness until they kicked her out because she couldn't stay out of politics. The Witnesses consider Christmas a Catholic appropriation of pagan holidays, which it is.
My ideal Christmas would be sitting on a tropical beach somewhere "Holy Days" are never celebrated. I can't get most of my family to agree.
One of my brothers and his wife and kids actually do end up on tropical beaches most every Christmas.

(5,125 posts)I also believe in Jesus and am not uncomfortable in my own space as owning Him as the Reason for the Season.
He gave up his life to teach us forgiveness.
BUT there is no need to bash children over the head about Santa Claus "myth" and GOD FORBID this PREACHER is using his power to make an example, someone who should know better, teaching children to go out in public and assassinate those we disagree with philosophically.
THOSE kids are going to need therapy.
SHAMEFUL misuse of power by someone who claims to know GOD.
PREACHER MAN WILL BE SHOCKED WHEN HE DIES - MATTHEW 25:31 -:41
Paraphrased
People who THINK they are good, but do evil and ignore being kind and charitable to others, go to Hell.
People who THINK themselves unworthy because they want to do more, but fall short of their own imposed goals may be pleasantly surprised that they were noticed all the time and get into Heaven.
THOSE WHO HARM CHILDREN are on JESUS' NAUGHTY LIST.
He reamed his own disciples over not letting little children come to Him.
THAT preacher is in for a Hell of a shock when he dies.

(210 posts)I'd like to believe that if I was there, I'd have the courage to start singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as loud as I could, hoping the parents and kids would join in. I think an impromptu caroling session with songs like Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Jingle Bells, etc...would drown the guy out and send him a message - while someone called for security to remove him. If he wants to preach that message he can do it on the public sidewalk.

(16,124 posts)he's a complete and total asshole.
Can't let kids enjoy childhood, has to try to wreck it for them.
Then again, it was my kid who, when his grandma told him that Christmas was Jesus' birthday said "Who's Jesus?" He was five and that was the year my beloved husband threw me under the bus out of panic when his mom finally realized we didn't go to church! He said it was because I liked to sleep in on Sunday.

(25,326 posts)flyers for a children"s event at Easter. Had a dressed up "Easter Bunny" . This was around the release of
Gibson's film. The pastor preceded to tie the bunny to a stack and whipping him in front of all the kids as he screamed out about the evils of the Easter bunny, eggs, etc. Kids were in shock, parents pissed. Police called. The local news called it the Passion of the Bunny. Storefront church,Assembly of God, closed soon after. "Pastor" and his crew of nut cases were run out of town. At rhw time it made the national news.
