After "unforeseen" circumstances. Sounds like they are racing to stay ahead of the law, or their creditors. Less of a firing than a sudden complete collapse of the company. So, they have either been defrauding people or something equally illegal. Maybe trafficking drugs? Or people? Firing all of those people like that suggests that is one of their less sleazy acts, IMO.

over the summer.

Didn't find any plans for future production, but did find out they have a facility in Viet Nam.

Also found out they haven't been paying their bills. They were big, but everyone in the business seems to have seen this coming.

They seem to have taken Lane down to the bottom. No word on Simmons.

They seem to be using the Sears model of going belly up while protecting cash flo

process of blowing off rules and regulations about firing and laying off people without due warning. And without access to COBRA?! WTF! (not that many of us have been able to afford it, but still...)

These corporations are not going to go gently into this generational transition from business to people easily. But we DO have to hold them accountable. With this being the 2nd company now to do this wholesale (Musk being the first), the law and judicial system have to hit them hard. Otherwise, we're all at risk of this becoming the new "blow off the law" thing for them to do. We have to say "enough is enough" before it gets out of hand.

did the math. Accept fines in lieu of their financial obligations to employees. Casinos do it all the time, pay 250k fines, don't pay out huge jackpots.

Our company was an outside carrier for UFi. Yes, it is sad that 2700 people lost their job the way they did, but UFI has been a poorly run company for a long time. I talked with a lot of their employees and they told me that UFI had been in trouble for some time and new something like this would happen. The last time I loaded at UFI was a couple of years ago and the employees knew then something was going on. Our company stopped loading there a few months after the last time there. I feel bad for those employees! They were alway very pleasant and were always caring to us the truck drivers.

“Your layoff from the company is expected to be permanent and all benefits will be terminated immediately without provision of Cobra,” a follow-up email from the company read, referring to a federal law that gives employees who lose their jobs the option to keep their employer-sponsored health insurance under certain circumstances.

You have been fired and fuck your benefits.

Fuck these thoughtless monsters
