to his madness.

As for why this association of mental health professionals, who warned us about Trump years ago, is posting about Musk's mental illness being distracting this morning...it apparently is due to the weird tweet-with-photo below, which Musk posted in the wee hours this morning, and which one person replying to Duty To Warn posted a parody photo of.
Someone replying directly to Musk's tweet asked if he was drunk. Others, mostly fanbois, are speculating about what it means and cheering Musk on for whatever the hell they think it means. At least one person was trying to find a Q message in it.
I'll post what I think of this under the tweet below.

Musk is a vain idiot who may have a drug problem and is almost certainly not thinking very clearly because of lack of sleep. (I saw people suggesting the Diet Coke cans show he's using Coke to stay awake, but that's caffeine free.)
He does know his RWNJ fanboi following, though, and this is an assortment of images meant to impress them, from the vajra that's associated with both Hindu and Buddhist beliefs as a symbol of godlike power and wisdom, to the fake gun for the video game Deus Ex: Human Revolution (or so I read; I don't play video games), to what looks like a replica flintlock in a collector's case with a replica of the famous painting of Washington crossing the Delaware inside the case lid...to the Coke cans that many of his fanboi followers will associate with staying up all night working, or playing video games. Though again, caffeine free Coke isn't going to help with that. But it will make his nitwit followers admire his dedication.

(7,279 posts)but I didn't join Twitter to witness his antics and twitch at his every move, and while I still can, I'll make use of Twitter for the purposes which have proven interesting and useful (and, I fear, irreplaceable in some cases) over the last few years. I see next to nothing of Musk on Twitter unless I actively seek him out, which I very rarely do when someone I read mentions him.
And seriously, the casual use of "mental illness", "madness" and "treason" in a tweet would usually lead me to mute the account that tweeted it, let alone one that claims to be an association of mental health professionals. Not cool, whatever Musk's up to.

(3,260 posts)Musk is a dumbass and has certainly taken some questionable stances and made some legendarily terrible decisions, but busting out an accusation of treason is frankly bizarre.

Please see the replies after both these tweets, too. Most of the replies are about that photo.

(146,338 posts)about people, based on some Twitter photo. Frankly, I'd self-delete this post. It's objectionable on several levels. Further, implying that his behavior is treasonous is equally bad practice. Go look up the definition of treason in the Constitution.

(146,338 posts)How is he a traitor? Why would people think he's insane?
Please explain, in your own words. Thanks.
A lot of things from a lot of places have been posted on DU. That does not necessarily make those things correct.
And you can trust me when I say I am far from being a Musk fan.

(9,130 posts)This is a new one for me.
I know we call everyone we hate a traitor or whatever word is fashionable at the time, but I had not heard the specific claim on this one. And I've been keeping up with every breath Musk takes. Mainly because I read GD most mornings.
I like how even if the theory makes no sense (signalling how he stays up all night with clearly caffeine free Coke cans), this Twitter person just fucking rolls with it anyway as part of his theory. He admits he has no idea what some of the stuff even is, but nah fam, let me roll out my theory. I have met drunks at a bar who spin stuff with more cogency.
That's Twitter in an absolute nutshell. "I see your facts and raise you with bullshit I just made up for clicks!"
I honestly think some of these people need help. If we want to discuss mental states, I have some theories about a lot of the people who are tweeting about this stuff all day every day.
(And yet none of this detracts from the fact that Musk is indeed a massive asshole who is enjoying himself thoroughly by being a massive asshole).

(7,279 posts)For those who care and can't see the tweet in the reply I'm replying to, it read:
@JustSchmeltzer
Elon Musk has Tweeted 88 (white supremacist code for Heil Hitler) to which they replied with 14 (code for their 14 Words), trotted out the Jewish Puppet Master trope, and then posted a wink to anti-Semites with a cartoon similar to the one they use, in reference to Vindman. @ADL
This wilfully ignores the context of the post Musk was replying to, as was pointed out downthread:

I'm an Elon detractor, but add some context please: He responded to a nature post noting that Madagascar has been isolated for 88 million years leading to unique flora and fauna. He didn't just pull the number out of thin air.
Here's Musk's tweet and the one he was replying to:

@Rainmaker1973
Madagascar wildlife is so unique that over 90% of it are endemic species that can't be found anywhere else on Earth. Reason for that is that it has been isolated for 88 millions years from other land masses
