Clarence Thomas was key to a plan to delay certification of 2020 election, Trump lawyers said in emailsCNN
We want to frame things so that Thomas could be the one to issue a temporary order putting Georgias results in doubt, Trump attorney Kenneth Chesebro wrote in a December 31, 2020, email, adding that a favorable order from Thomas was their only chance to hold up Congress from counting electoral votes for Biden from Georgia.
John Eastman, another attorney for Trump, responded to that email saying he agreed with the plan. In the email exchanges with several other lawyers working on Trumps legal team, they were discussing filing a lawsuit that they hoped would result in an order that TENTATIVELY held that Biden electoral votes from Georgia were not valid because of election fraud.
Having a case pending in front of the Supreme Court, Chesebro wrote, would be enough to prevent the Senate from counting Bidens electors. Thomas would end up being the key here, Chesebro wrote, noting that Thomas is the justice assigned to dealing with emergency matters coming from the southeastern part of the country.
Not exactly a new article but I'm just seeing it for the first time and figured I'd post it.

(21,577 posts)So Thomas would be the one to rule on it. So they framed it as a Georgia problem.

(3,531 posts)For goodness sakes, people; this big reveal came out a while back, and it seems like, for now, all we have is tRumps bumbling, incompetent lawyers speculating that Thomas will be their ally (the key) to holding up certification. tRumps lawyers; you know, the same dumbasses who kept insisting there was mountains of proof, except they never produced any. Among other crazy things they claimed.
Is there ANY evidence Thomas was in communication with them? Or Ginni? Are there phone logs, text messages, emails? Because I would love it if there was. But for the moment, its just the speculations of some crazy people.
You want them to arrest Thomas for what?
Unless there are emails or texts to and from Thomas showing he was in on this, its all just speculation. No smoking gun here.

(3,862 posts)Because Trump and his band of incompetent fools thought he might be sympathetic if they framed the argument right?
How about, and I know this sounds radical to some, we get some evidence he was at least in communication with them regarding this issue, before we arrest him?
I know, I'm an old fashioned liberal who would like to see some basic evidence presented before arrest warrants are signed.
One of Trump's biggest crime was turning so many of us into them. Authoritarians itching to use the power of the State to punish all perceived enemies, regardless of due process and the rule of law.

(3,860 posts)Without having to impeach him? If he's charged with the crimes he's committed can the conviction keep him off the court?

(38,560 posts)What I note most about it was my own reaction--not surprised at all.
In fact, I'd be surprised if anyone were surprised that people were counting on Thomas to make the difference.

(7,282 posts)of course we can "know" Thomas would have gladly played his part if given the opportunity.
but obviously it didn't.

They belong to the same group of people that will tell the world that the Court isnt political when they clearly believe the justices (Thomas, specifically) will act in a political manner for them.

It's a real eye opener regarding this very point.
