And have not listened to Rachel Maddow’s podcast ULTRA, please do so at your earliest convenience. I would add that in the last part, part eight, after the credits, there is a speech which should be listened to. I’ll leave it at that and won’t give anything away.

As far as I’m concerned, this is required listening for anyone who feels that she or he is politically aware. This is a chapter in history that my parents had alluded to when I was growing up, but even they obviously had no idea the extent of the cover-up and horror of this movement. I might add anyone who thinks that this political philosophy is a “thing of the past” is mightily mistaken.

simply because the complexity of the information and the shock of learning details of our history required it. The underlying parallels with the American present are eye-opening and give extra pause!
Part eight's speech at the end was the bonus after the lessons.
According to Lawrence O'Donnell the podcast is now the most listened to worldwide.

Tue Nov 29, 2022, 10:24 AM
Nov 2022

Questions like:
-How long does it take to prosecute treasonous subversion and entreating with the enemy during a time of war?
Answer; For fucking ever, so forget about it.
-Why does it take so long to do simple things to provide justice in the US?
Answer; Because the sum of the unimaginative and the happily deluded provide a majority who are perfectly willing to believe no progress is the same as "moving along at a prudent pace".
-How did this travesty become normality in our self-perfecting democracy in a nation exclusively populated with patriotic heroes?
Answer; Because the only perfection our society allows is the smug self-satisfaction of those who are "perfectly happy" with the status quo.

Nothing since Covid.
Seen over 200 shows.

Born with so-so hearing. Then got (and thank goodness only mild, rarely annoying) permanent tintinitus in my left ear from sitting in the wrong place w/o earplugs at The Filmore East 10/69 to hear The Who play Tommy. Both ears rang for like 3 days! 😄
Ok, not -really- funny but...
And I did learn my lesson! Ear stopples, or at least kleenix if nothing else available!

So try the earbuds they help me at times. 👍

It’s a history lesson that has come to pass again…now. There’s tons of info that I didn’t learn in school and I’ll just bet you didn’t either. It is a riveting story of the rise of fascism in America. This is NOT talk radio. You may not be interested in the subject but you don’t get to say that this is something that it definitely isn’t. And, only you get to decide if you yell at the radio or not. Good grief.

What is the difference between a podcast and my buddy who always had AM radio on in his car for Rush or my son who crams his head full of Jehovah while doing lawn work?

I don't listen to the ball game on the radio either, so there's that, and frankly I despise radio. AM is all hate and FM has been decimated by corporate greed. I have one in my car, but I've had Sirius since its inception so I don't use it.

As an anecdote, my friend reminded me of the time of my youth when were were going somewhere on a two lane road. I had the radio on because it was either that or 8 track when a song came on for the 2nd time that hour. I calmly pulled the car to the berm, got out and walked to the passenger side where I snapped my antenna off, tossing it into the ditch. I got back in and said "that's better". I've not listened to broadcast radio since. Podcasts are likewise, a nonstarter.

Your mind is completely made up (falsely) and you also managed to insult a long time DUer in the process. We aren’t speaking about all podcasts, we are talking about Rachel Marrow’s Ultra. It is your loss if you don’t care about history is repeating itself with the rise of fascism in America.

Also, shame on you for throwing trash from your car into a ditch. Disrespecting the planet is a nonstarter.

Rachel could transcribe her podcasts if she wanted to end my total and blatant ignorance of history.
Or the poster could have revealed the surprise ending if it wasn't so hard to type and read these days.

Shame on me. I'll go back and see if that antenna's still there from 45 years ago. I'll drop it off at the junkyard where the Buick ended up.

I listened to some of the episodes two or three times. I shall go listen to the whole thing all the way through again. It's a fascinating story. I consider myself something of an amateur historian on the American past, and I had never heard this story.

Rachel is brilliant.

Thank you for this post.

I listened to the podcasts as they came out every Monday. This is a story I knew NOTHING about, and I'm assuming most people don't know.

NONE of my friends or family are podcasts listeners

I'm glad to see she's writing a book regarding this horrible and terrifying series of events since it will reach more people.

She is an awesome storyteller! I'm glad to see it's #1 on the Apple podcasts.

I don't have Apple but I do have Audible. Having said that, folks still should be able to access them using google and not have to sign up for any platform.

I am old and have lived through a lot of bad stuff. I went to segregated schools (Brown v. Board was decided the year after I graduated from public high school in Dallas, Tx). The issue of rape was of course in the lives of women, myself included.

So what I want to know is if there are some new thoughts developing from this podcast. I love Maddow and honor her work.

listening now...thank you. This is necessary listening for people who never wants the trump dynasty he was trying to build with his militia movement, the RW's help in our Congress, and his virulent base of Americans. And possibly the DOJ. Not accusing AG Garland. Another large problem is the RW Supreme Court's 6-3 Republican majority. And the sedition movement ain't over yet. I am worried because of the widespread need of some Americans need for tyranny over democracy.

Thanks to you. And one of the real ones, Rachel Maddow.

To all the non-podcast listeners here: I learn much better visually and therefore via written word, but Ultra is a superb introduction to a grim saga we must know to help us survive these times.

I'm a "transcript" kind of person.

And yes, I was already aware of the nazi movement in the U.S., though in less detail.
This is an important work, and needs to be amplified starting right now, if not sooner.

Its widespread dissemination and understanding will be a turning point

Note: an American "hero", Henry Ford.

(In case it's not obvious from the small-ish photo, that's Henry Ford receiving the Grand Cross of the German Eagle from Nazi officials, 1938)
https://rarehistoricalphotos.com/henry-ford-grand-cross-1938/

Speaking in 1931 to a Detroit News reporter, Hitler said he regarded Ford as his “inspiration”, explaining his reason for keeping Ford’s life-size portrait next to his desk. Steven Watts wrote that Hitler “revered” Ford.

His publications

And, a culture war, to boot.

Henry Ford Plotted To Destroy Black, Jewish Jazz With Country Music
BLAC Mag’s Aaron Foley, a Jalopnik alum, wrote up that a big part of white country music’s rise was thanks to Henry Ford sponsoring its specifically white aspects to keep his workers away from jazz’s “monkey talk and jungle squeals.” And as he was wont to do, Ford blamed Jews for jazz’s presence.

Now, we have Elon the Automotive hero.

I made myself listen to the first episode of the podcast and now have easily gone through all of them. Zero regrets. It is on a positive note telling us about this. We need to know this.
I too have run away into light movies. I need them right now.
But this podcast is in all of its information told like a story and not knowing this particular history is not good in the end.
Give it a try.

Here in the U.S.A. we're pretty good at burying our sordid history. I'm afraid the people who need to hear it don't listen to Rachel Maddow.

Fascism is appealing to many U.S. Americans. It hasn't gone away.

Quoting Rachel:

It's not just one thing that works. It has to be everything.

If they’re making war on the battlefield, you have to fight them in war and beat them.

If they’re running for office, you have to fight them in elections and beat them.

If they're discrediting electoral politics and trying to make fascism seem like the cooler alternative, you have to defend electoral politics and make fascism seem as stupid and boring as it is.
