This is said as if there are other considerations a voter/supporter has that mean more to them than a person's/candidate's vile and dangerous thinking/words. That they can live with racism or antisemitism or sexism or homophobia if they get what they want. That, somehow, they might not be racist/sexist/antisemitic/homophobic themselves - it's just that they want something else the person/candidate offers.
But that's bullshit.
If you can live with racism/sexism/homophobia/antisemitism - which means you are saying you can live with the cruel and brutal treatment of people not you or yours - then you are racist. You are homophobic. You are antisemitic. You are sexist.
You can't prop up the horrific treatment of others and not agree with how they are being treated.
You might have an issue you value more than how other people are treated, but all that says is you don't care how other people are treated.
And there's a reason for that - and it ain't a pretty one.
And it's for damn sure not excusable.
If it isn't a deal-breaker, it's because they accept the thinking behind it. They might value profits more, but that doesn't make them any less racist, any less homophobic, any less sexist, any less antisemitic.
And this has always been true.
And don't get me started on any variation of, "That's just the way it was back then."

(3,435 posts)..hopefully] I've learned a few things along the way.. am wiser to see through a the bullshite, lies, mierda [ shite; caca] were served up every day..ojala I live long enough to see some of these culeros [ assholes] get their just desserts, karma hammer them, gets their due for the fucking hate filled, evil, vile people they are..not just in U.S. not just wealthy whoreders of wealth in.u.s. they're not going to save they say, not going to irradiate poverty, hungry, illness-- not going to improve the lives of others.
We see it played out everyday...they've doubled do2n on their hate, even though they lost seats..lost elections ..doesn't matter they are headed full steam.ahead..all hate all the time. I'm just too old to stomach their vitriol-- too smart to engage..less stress! So now anytime I see or hear RW hate mongers, racist bigoted fascists--I just shut them off..and find my life is easier, and yes less stressful. Grant it, it is imperative that we are aware that they are out there..but I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to look to Dem leadership..eg president, VP, house and Senate leaders to inform us of an event that may harm.all of us
.like another insurrection until then I've literally gone fishing. Gn y paz.

(7,849 posts)Trump is the Republican Party's greatest invention...he took decades long Republican hate for "the other" out of the shadows, into the Oval Office, and gave it a voice...no more whispers, secret handshakes, winks and nods...racism/antisemitism/misogyny, once a Republican wet dream, now business as usual...Republicans could deliver massive tax cuts to their super wealthy donors, deny minorities the right to vote, take away a woman's right to reproductive healthcare..all ok, out in the open, in daylight..as for pushback/outrage..well, they could fault their cretin in the White House, a depraved hate-fueled vengeful sexual deviant..a cruel crude amoral bigoted know-nothing apathetic narcissistic Hitler-wannabe psychopath..
Two years after Trump's not so quiet exit and their continued losses at the ballot box, the Republican Party is doing their damndest to wash off the Trump stink, shove the hate genie back in the bottle, but the wise-to-their shit multi-ethnic/multi-cultural electorate ain't gonna to let 'em...
