It's been a long time since there was a WH state dinner. I've always liked reviewing the guest list to see who (apart from cabinet members, other administration officials, and party leaders) gets invited, particularly those from outside the world of politics (and also those from the other party). Some of the names on the guest list at the Macron dinner that jumped out at me (and I'm not suggesting in any way that there is anything wrong about these folks being invited) include
Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough
Julia Louis Dreyfuss and her son
Stephen Colbert and spouse
Hunter Biden and spouse
Rep. Steve Scalise
Jennifer Garner and her daughter
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen
Terry McAuliffe
Rep. Kevin McCarthy
Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX)
Alexander Soros (George's son)
Rep. James Risch (R-ID)
Sen. John Thune
Sen. Susan Collins
Robin Roberts
John Podesta
Steven Breyer
Ron Green

I thought it was an interesting mix of guests and I think it is important that they included some republicans as well, showing that once again this White House really tries to be bi-partisan, even if the opposition doesn't.
