He was seen with his attorney, Michael Purpura. Purpura has not responded to requests for comment.
Thomas Windom and Mary Dohrmann, prosecutors in the January 6 investigation who are now to be led by special counsel Jack Smith, were also seen walking in with Cipollone. The investigators are looking at efforts to obstruct the transfer of power at the end of Trumps presidency, and have obtained testimony from several of the closest administration advisers around the former president after the election and as the Capitol was attacked by his supporters.
CNN previously reported that Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the DC District Court, who oversees the federal grand juries in Washington, ordered Cipollone and his deputy to provide additional grand jury testimony this month, following up on their testimony in the fall. The judge has repeatedly rejected Trumps privilege claims in the Justice Departments criminal investigation of efforts to overturn the 2020 election, according to people briefed on the matter.

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)Cipollone looked to me to be a guy who knows what the boundaries are and who tried his best to stay on the right side of the ethical traps the former guy was constantly laying down. He'd probably give his left nut not to have to testify before the grand jury, but having been forced into it, he'll give a straightforward account of his doings.

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)But for some reason, if Cipollone was to say that he stayed in the administration hoping to prevent even worse things from happening, I'd credit him for that, where I don't credit a bunch of other folks who have tried that line of excuse-making. Cipollone strikes me as someone who has an ethical core, which would be very bad news indeed for the former guy.

(7,759 posts)he only "listened" when it was to his advantage personally..Trump was told specifically to not appoint Jeffrey Clark acting attorney general, except he did but rescinded the verbal appointment when both the acting attorney general the assistant attorney general threatened to quit and take the their department with them..Cipollone, like John Kelly, was a well educated nanny, doing his best to temper a vengeful spoiled brat and failing miserably...
as a side note..there's no way in hell Cipollone didn't know about the plot to overthrow the election..just saying

(5 posts)Cipollone was part of Trump's defense in the trial before the Senate, a completely unethical move considering Cipollone was obviously also a witness to what transpired and should have declined to act as Trump's lawyer given that fact. So I am not fooled by Cipollone being a supposedly straight-shooter. They are all scum.

when Barr did his first attorney general stint under Bush I ..and he has very close Catholic ties to Barr and Federalist Society's Leonard Leo..Cipollone did not just fall into his job as White House counsel, he was chosen...he's a thinner better dressed Bill Barr and just as trustworthy...

(43,982 posts)where Trump suggested doing something illegal. When he testified for J6th commitee it seemed like he could barely contain himself when asked about Trump on the day of Jan 6th, but his lawyer stopped him because of Trumps fake attorney/client privilege.
You are right, hell give a straightforward true account. Wish I could be a fly on the wall!

(4,913 posts)He was not happy with what happened on J6. He thought Eastman and others were out of their minds. He faces no legal jeopardy by answering the questions truthfully. I think he wants to tell the grand jury what was said at the White house.
Bad news for all the traitors.
