is gonna go out as ugly as Favre did. He has a zillion TV offers among many other new gigs but I see how hard it is for some to give up their glory days. Nobody likes change. Hard to watch the struggle. That is all.

(24,450 posts)Bill and Tom are both ending their careers on a sad note. Tom should have gone out out on top with his last Super Bowl win. I always thought he made Belichick look brilliant. When he left, Bill became a coach in search of another Tom Brady. Mac Jones isn't TB.

(24,450 posts)But the legacy started when Drew Bledsoe got injured in 2001. The rest is history. The NFL quarterback GOAT.

(31,974 posts)But you have already returned your verdict.

(24,450 posts)Brady had a lot of quality teammates around him. Mac, not so much. The O-line is pretty piss-poor. The receivers aren't much better.

(24,450 posts)You think this was Tom Brady?
Lets talk about football deflation. Everyone went nuts about that. Happened in the 1st half of the Colts game, in the 2014 AFC championship game. Brady/Patriots were up 17-7 at halftime. Using properly inflated footballs, they won the game 45-7. If you understand air pressure and temperature, you understand why the balls were under inflated. But, the haters need a reason to hate the most awesomely successful football team of the 21st century.

(64,995 posts)Boyle's Law is called a "law" because it's not a theory.
And, the NFL released those numbers which proved the balls had to be inflated to specs before the game.
They didn't nail Brady over deflated footballs. They nailed him for failing to cooperate with an investigation into an event that didn't happen.
And, in case anybody considers calling me a fanboy, I'm a Bears fan. I am not a Patriots homer.
But, science is science and that was a witch hunt.

(16,858 posts)The weather was crazy that night. There was wicked rain early and that rain transitioned to sleet and ice after the game. Vince Wilfork actually helped a stranded passenger on I-95 that night whose car had flipped because of the ice. I can still remember driving home on a thin sheet of ice on 95 thinking "Don't go fast and don't slam the breaks".

(53,764 posts)their sorry division and make the playoffs. I wouldn't count him for a good playoff run as the team is getting healthy players back and the defense is good.
With good line protection he can still find his targets, and the running game is getting back into form.
I don't think he'll drag it out like Farve did when he decides to hang 'em up.

(53,764 posts)as their division is sorry. They're in first place you know. Or do you know?
I still think Tom should have hung it up last year.

(100,063 posts)He definitely got flipped somewhere and went to the dark side and started spouting every horrible conspiracy he could. That definitely cost him his career. I like the Packers as a team (my aunt and uncle used to live in the Milwaukee area), but I think hes just such a garbage person that its hard to root for him.

ProfessorGAC
(64,995 posts)And, he's in 4x those subway commercials.
Most of those shoots are done in the athlete's off-season so I have a hard time believing that appearing in a commercial affects their performance.
Finally, they put famous athletes in those ads because it adds revenue.
They're not going to have me do it, because who the heck would care what kind of sandwiches I like.
The get recruited because they're already famous!
pwb
(11,261 posts)to me and famous senator material to others. I probably couldn't get into a football game today, not owning a team jersey. Is their a Subway ad on the football itself yet? Soon.
Certain sports for certain people.
I wouldn't watch a college football game on a bet. So, I get it.
But, those are still famous athletes, which is why they're on those ads in the first place.
And your dislike of football doesn't address how being in an ad leads to reduced performance. Which seemed to the your original premise.
That's why I mentioned Curry. Mid 30s, scoring 30+ points per game on >50% shooting, over 43% from 3. And, his defense is better than when he was 25!
He's in a half-dozen of those ads, and he's playing terrifically.
pwb
(11,261 posts)They make enough. A great ball player could be a real asshole? Being good at sports does not make me like or dislike someone. I like football, the commercialism in every view not so much.
ProfessorGAC
(64,995 posts)And, it makes sense.
But, advertisers want that return on investment and starting with high name recognition helps assure that.
Like I said earlier, I could endorse Subway for a lot less, but why would they put me in a commercial? Other than my wife, who would care about my endorsement?

(6,078 posts)They both made their marriage everyone else's business. So don't blame me for their narcissism. They could have easily said that this was a private matter and they would like to keep it private, but they didn't. So don't tell me their marriage is none of anyone else's business.
