(16,351 posts)My boyfriend n I went to NYC a week before Christmas. He had been stationed there during Viet Nam.. I said it was a while ago! I was like a wide eyed kid looking at all the lights n decorating n how cold it was! A perfect setting for a Florida girl never seeing such sights. This picture reminds me of that holiday trip. Thanks. Happy Holidays 🎄

(27,047 posts)I grew up living in the suburbs, a 50-minute train ride to 42nd Street from Connecticut. It was such a rush exiting Grand Central and smelling those fumes. Christmas was a real treat.

(31,405 posts)where it was a 50 minute train ride coming in to Penn Station.
It was such a treat to come to the city to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and walk Fifth Ave to see all the fabulous window displays:Saks, Lord & Taylor, Bonwit Teller, Bergdorf's...in the late '50's and early 60's. Such memories.
And fuck Donald Trump for destroying the art work that was in and on the Bonwit Teller building.

(27,047 posts)It was gritty and at least had character. We'd eat at Romeo's Italian Kitchen on 42nd St. The Planters store had Mr. Peanut in the window tapping on the glass with his cane. It was a real thrill shopping at Macy's where they had escalators!
