The Feds will not honor these laws. I imagine they will sue the states in the next week.
And then start busting the shops selling pot.
The Feds and Obama need to back the hell off these states.

(4,226 posts)It needs to be legalized on a federal level. If he gives states the power to over ride federal law all help will break loose regarding obamacare and much more.

(22,336 posts)and it's just a question of when, not if. They can fight it but they will eventually lose. I think most people in the US are fine with mj use. The feds will follow eventually.

(329 posts)Just the shops. Same thing will happen here. They won't go after the people growing 6 plants and carrying an ounce inside the law, but they'll block shops.

(9,709 posts)I was extremely happy about I-502 passing but that enjoyment is tempered somewhat by Obama's DOJ....because if his crackdown on MMJ is any indication, they'll come after Washington and Colorado..

(19,705 posts)Since it is now legal in the State, it would be ILLEGAL for State and Local law enforcement to help the Feds arrest and prosecute cannabis users, no?

(9,709 posts)the feds aren't going to let a cash cow like busting pot users just go by the wayside without a fight...for they know, if Washington and Colorado work out, which you know they will, other states are sure to follow..

(17,087 posts)Even retailers would be difficult to target. They can't go after every convenience store in a state. They are going to have to regroup in the face of widespread opposition.
I expect they will try something like they did to pressure the states to raise the drinking age to 21 by withholding federal funds.

(58,417 posts)1. Both states are blue critical to keeping Obama in the White House.
2. If the Republicans come to power and crack down, they will be writing off the Libertarian and "states rights" advocates in their party.
I believe the Obama Administration will reschedule cannabis to a more logical status.
Thanks for the thread, Logical.

(19,705 posts)the Feds in prosecuting and arresting cannabis users? The Feds will have a very, very difficult time operating without the assistance of State and Local authorities...

(21,475 posts)Pot was declared by the Alaska Supreme Court to be not detrimental enough to warrant a person's privacy to be invaded for that purpose. In other words the State could not issue warrants for the purpose of Pot. Feds then decided to deputize all State Troopers so they would follow Federal Law on that matter...
