An amendment legalizing recreational marijuana use and sale passed in Colorado Tuesday night, and opposing Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) conceded defeat. With a warning for the stoners.
The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will, Hickenlooper said on Amendment 64. This will be a complicated process, but we intend to follow through. That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug so dont break out the Cheetos or gold fish too quickly.

(12,081 posts)I don't remember when but I know Obama sent the DEA a memo instructing them not to harrass people and collective gardens if they are operating within state law, and they do seem to be obeying this instruction. I know here in WA there were recently 23 collective gardens that were told to move, not shut down, but to move because they were too close to a school or public park. My husband personally knows one of these collectives. They did had to move but did find another place to open up shop. Alot of people are concerned and waiting to see how the feds will react. I'm wondering if they will continue to obey the instruction and leave people alone as long as they are within state law.
