TDFG gave vile, despicable people permission to put their vilemess on public display.

One of the things I hate most about Donald Trump (out of a very long list of things I hate about him ) is the way he has given the vilest, rudest, cruelest people in the GOP permission to be just as rude, crude, and cruel as they want, with no holds barred whatsoever. I made a post about this in response to an o.p. about a truly vile and horrible comment GOP Rep. Cory Mills tweeted about Paul Pelosi. If you haven't seen it yet, here's the link to sheshe2's o.p.: https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=17539896

I have been encouraged to share what I wrote in response as a separate o.p., so here it is:

This is another thing I lay at Trump's door. 😠

Republicans learned from him that it was okay to pull out all the stops and show the worst side of themselves to the public. Those capable of such vile and despicable behavior always were vile and despicable, but they used to keep their vileness under wraps. It was Trump who showed them that they could lay it all out for the world to see with few, if any, consequences.

Remember how shocking it was when he mocked that disabled reporter, talked about Megyn Kelly having "blood coming out of her wherever," and said John McCain wasn't a war hero because he "got caught"? Not everyone was shocked, because not everyone has qualities like compassion and empathy that most of us expect from each other. Those who, like Trump, lack those qualities, weren't offended at all. The "lesson" they took from those tawdry, tacky stunts was, "Hey, I don't need to pretend to be 'nice' anymore! It's fine to be rude, crude, and cruel. I don't have to keep it in--I can let it all out like he does!"

And now here we are, in a world where Cory Mills, a member of Congress, can feel free to tweet something that gross and nasty about the spouse of another member of Congress and pat himself on the back for "owning the libs" (because that's what he actually thinks he did ).

TDFG has a lot to answer for, beyond just being the most traitorous and criminally corrupt pos who ever got elected potus.

Remember when his own wife, the first lady of the US wore the coat...

the jacket was photographed being worn by first lady Melania Trump as she boarded a plane at Joint Base Andrews on her way to McAllen, Texas, to visit a detention center holding immigrant children separated from their parents. By the time she had landed, she had taken off the jacket. Then, she put it back on when she returned to Andrews ... and she wore it as she walked back into the White House.

Trump built this and the GOP are running with it. It was always festering below the surface. It has grown. Cruelty is now the way of life for the GOP. There are no holds barred anymore.

Thanks for the post. Shazzie.

I agree. I am frequently disgusted by the vile things people say and find it hard to believe we have come to this point.

I agree that Cory Mills is a disgusting person who should have been permanently banned from Twitter for that remark.

Thanks for posting this!

I sometimes wonder if they were raised in a barn, where decorum is non-existent. They were clearly not taught to earn merit and virtue through ethical morality.

What ever happened to "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you?" Did they never hear about the golden rule? Clearly the church has failed us. Ethical morality is about exercising self-discipline over one's body, speech, and mind. At the heart of it is "ahimsa," which means do no harm.

Yes, they're not particular about where they defecate or have sex, but they do have a sort of rules to live by that they follow. Animal moms will "punish" their young for stepping outside of certain boundaries, for instance. Even with other adult animals, they enforce certain rules amongst themselves, especially regarding their idea of hierarchy.

And, honestly, no horse or cattle or chicken I ever had to deal with has ever behaved as badly toward any creature as the GOP does, day in, day out. I never personally saw one of them act with deliberate cruelty, although I knew of the occasional neighboring farmer who had to deal with livestock that "wasn't right in the head."

You know what farmers do to "bad" animals who go out of their way to attack property, other animals, or humans ?

They end them. They can't keep an animal who is dangerous to the workings of the rest of the farm, and nobody will buy said animal, either. You just have to lose that investment in time and money and effort, because none of that matters when an animal's bubble is too far off plumb.

Trump liberated their inner Deplorable, and they LOVE him for it.

He said out loud on public all the ignorant, bigoted, cruel, and false bullshit they believed in -- and that, more than anything, explains their cultish devotion to him.

And, of course, drastically lowering the standards of "conservatives" in Congress.

I think our side's insistence on "going high," while kind and civilized, is no longer enough when dealing with the people they now gleefully show themselves to be.

The Dark Biden meme is one indication of us coming to terms with that, and that's a good thing. We need a lot more of the Dark Biden kinds of slap downs, and we need them from every level of our politics.
