(31,988 posts)That didnt come out right. And I should know better because I live in a red state, too.
I wish Texas would kick out all their worst lawmakers, maybe thats a better solution.

(15,936 posts)Thanks for understanding. Its hard living among these people.
We have proxy voting here, so, if someone doesnt show up to vote on a bill, never mind that, someone can vote in your place.
Diamond_Dog
(31,988 posts)That gerrymandering and voter suppression keep many votes from being counted. Maybe if we allowed more access to the ballot box instead of less, things might be different. But the powers that be are too happy with the way things are.

(15,936 posts)I wish something could be done about it, but alas nothing ever seems to work out in our favor regarding this unfair behavior.

(25,816 posts)Stuff like "What's in the water down there?" etc ad nauseum. I frequently ask the bashers what state they are from
so I can tell them who the idiots in their state are, but none ever respond. Texas is inching toward blueness.
Arizona got a Dem Governor and AG this year and when Gallego takes down Sinema we'l have two Dem senators as well.
Every state has many thousands of solid Democrats.
MagickMuffin
(15,936 posts)State bashing should not be tolerated on DU. Its not our fault we have to live in these states that have subverted democracy.
But us Democrats keep trying!
Im glad AZ is in fact changing. I have friends there who moved from Texas to live closer to a family member. Theyre helping turn the state a better shade of purple/blue!

He knows how to squeeze the trigger though, and that's all that matters to the dregs of society to which he appeals.

(11,736 posts)To right wing extremists that has typically meant that he could be used as a vehicle for their toxic messaging.
We discount this effort at our own peril. Rittenhouse shouldn't get attention, and we shouldn't give it to him, but we should not dismiss that he appeals to extremists and the value it has to push right wing messaging. While Rittenhouse likely, as you said, only resonates with the most extreme and disturbed people in society, most people will only glance at headlines and remember that he was the kid that was, "attacked by protestors, and shot them". If they look at right wing sources, they will be told that he rightfully defended himself from violent radical leftists. If that brings new eyes to right wing lies, then they have succeeded in their goal.
The extreme right will discard Rittenhouse as soon as he stops being useful to them.

(6,017 posts)Someone had to front the money for this "rally" even if it failed. Kyle isn't running for office & he hasn't really build up a social media machine for monetizing his "fame".
I too agree that it seems likely someone is funding this and paying him to show up - or paying for it and making promises of easy fame and fortune to him.

"How long before someone takes the 15 seconds required to click on the tweet, click on the source, then see if it's true?"

(7,286 posts)Some random tweet from some random dude that seems sketchy on the face of it: bait
But so reinforces what one wants to believe: hook
Click, rec, comment in ignorance: line and sinker
The hard part is when the facts come out folks still fall for it, because nobody bothers to read the comments in the thread, including the original poster, who lets the thread stand, without correction.
Which is ironic because this is a discussion forum and if nobody is reading this post I am wasting my time
So lets kick and see how many folks fall for it today!

(5,351 posts)The second photo below is a photo taken at the beginning of the event, tweeted by @Tricornes, and the photo squares up with other images that appeared in news articles that came up via a simple Google search. The full event is available on YouTube and the few shots of the audience show that the venue wasn't empty.
Yeah, everyone involved in the rally is loathsome, but let's not stoop to their level by repeating things without seeing whether they're accurate first.

(7,286 posts)to get to some semblance of accuracy
why so many fall for this "all tweets are the truth, especially from some random person I aint heard of" bullshit I never can reckon
I had a feeling, because this sort of shit happens all the time, that the OP was not accurate
And based on previous experience it wont be removed or recanted or corrected
because the more gullible one is, the easier the propaganda gets shoved down your throat
