General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsOne day--most likely sometime in the next few weeks--there will be breaking news.
We don't know what exact day that will be. Or what time of day it will be.
It could be a matter of just a few days.
It might be a matter of a few weeks.
But I don't foresee it being much longer than that.
Where will this breaking news come from?
Most likely it will be New York.
But it could be out of Georgia.
It probably won't be from Washington, DC. At least not just yet.
When the news first breaks, it will be cryptic.
Maybe we'll first hear about it from a tweet from some reputable journalist.
Or maybe you'll hear about it on a "This just in..." announcement on one of the cable news networks.
It will be hard to believe for any of us when we first hear the news. Because it will be news that we've been waiting to hear for years, only to felt let down time after time, to the point where our cynicism has told us to expect perpetual disappointment.
But as source after source confirms the news, we will come to the realization that this time, it's different.
This time, it's actually real.
No let down this time. No bitter disappointment.
Those who said they expected this news will claim a sense of victory and vindication. Those who thought we'd never hear this news will happily admit they were wrong.
All of us, however, will rejoice. Be amazed. Be astonished. Question whether they are dreaming or now. Reach to the top shelf and find that fine spirit we've been saving for this particular day.
The news will spread rapidly, like wildfire. All over this website. All over the news channels. All over social media.
It will be all-consuming. It will be all we want to talk about.
Because it's been years in the making.
And that day is coming soon. Very soon.
We don't know exactly when, but it is definitely coming.

(4,913 posts)When the indictments hit it will be historic. It will consume the news cycle. It will rock our nation.
Yes, the naysayers will say they are happy they were proven wrong. Some will say I always thought Willis would indict or some kind of BS. Some of them will most likely become naysayers of the trials. It's too late, Trump and the coup plotters will not be convicted. I can see that coming.

(15,220 posts)Im one of the ones who doesnt think he will ever see punishment. I dont even honestly think there will be an indictment. That said, I have ALWAYS said that Id love to be wrong and will freely and fully admit to being wrong IF I see that happen.
It has not happened yet.
What benefit is there to saying I can see that coming? So what?
The idea that any DUer knows more about what will or will not happen to Trump is absurd. We all only know what weve read or been told.
The end result is that everyone on here wants to see justice served. So why is it important that those of us who have longed for that justice be singled out as naysayers? No one here knows more than anyone else.
I still hope to see Trump in orange and irons, but until that happens please do, by all means, consider me a naysayer. But dont tell me anyone here knows anything more or less than anyone else. This is a discussion board and we discuss. If some posters feel the need to say I was right and you were wrong, Id seriously have to wonder about their life (or lack thereof) outside of DU.

(4,925 posts)Could be, who knows?
There's somethin' due any day
I will know right away, soon as it shows
It may come cannonballin' down through the sky
Gleam in its eye, bright as a rose
Who knows? It's only just out of reach
Down the block, on a beach, under a tree
I got a feelin' there's a miracle due
Gonna come true, comin' to me
Could it be? Yes, it could
Somethin's comin', somethin' good, if I can wait
Somethin's comin', I don't know what it is
But it is gonna be great
With a click, with a shock
Phone'll jingle, door'll knock, open the latch
Somethin's comin', don't know when
But it's soon, catch the moon, one-handed catch
Around the corner
Or whistlin' down the river
Come on, deliver to me
Will it be? Yes, it will
Maybe just by holdin' still, it'll be there
Come on, somethin', come on in, don't be shy
Meet a guy, pull up a chair, the air is hummin'
And somethin' great is comin'
Who knows? It's only just out of reach
Down the block, on a beach, maybe tonight
Maybe tonight, maybe tonight

And that's not including the stolen docs case, which also should've been adjudicated by now also.

(1,460 posts)Like you, I serve myself reason by embracing reason's servant, doubt.
Vegas has a lot of lines on these various outcomes, they continue to change each day, as the next wave of bets, safety-bets, and wild wagers are placed.
The majority of these wagers are based in political capital.
Nonetheless...
There are enough substantive facts in evidence for a well reasoned individual to conclude that at the very least, multiple well-constructed cases have been presented and the likelihood has increased that our nation might grapple with that very thing, how might the former POTUS be arrested.
It would be a sadly celebratory day.
I met many of my great aunts on my father's side, that discussed the war between the states. They had each had family members that fought for the "confederacy" and family members that fought to save the union of the United States of America. They cried as they recounted what a horror to know that members of their family were fighting to kill each other. These were my grandfathers sisters. My grandfather was one of thirteen. The only thing he ever said about it was, "There's no honor in violence, only suffering and pain." My grandfather died just before he turned ninety-six.
I'm in one the most heavily armed places in the country where you're more likely to be a victim of crime than Chicago.
Caddo Parish was the last stronghold of the "confederacy' and to this day, not a single "white' individual has been given a death sentence for the murder of a "person of color".
The flag of the "confederacy" is still prominently displayed on flagpoles in cemeteries, residences, business establishments, trucks, clothing, and Motorcycle "Clubs" Vests. Many of the "Clubs" are popular among law enforcement, such as The Jump Out Boys, Banditos, and Grey Ghosts, so additionally there's that...
So, a day where "their President" is arrested... I'm quite uncertain about what reactions may come about as a result of such an arrest. ...and what reactions to the reactions... etc. ad nauseum.
And yet, my desire is for that day to come.
Because I know no other reasoned way forward than for reason to rule, and the arrest would indeed demonstrate that reason ruled!
Here's to that outcome!!!
May reason rule.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,816 posts)the Confederate flag should long ago, as in no later than 1866, declared a symbol of treason and been outlawed.
Like the Nazi Swastika in Germany.
I have zero faith that reason will prevail. I'm weary of the daily, hourly, minute by minute predictions of Now He's Done For! As I keep on posting, remember Fitzmas. So many here were totally confident that Bush would come down, that there would be consequences for misdeeds. Completely misplaced confidence, as it turned out. I expect the same thing, or something very close to it, will be the ultimate outcome here.
MayReasonRule
(1,460 posts)As far as my ancestors that were traitors, they were traitors, and they deserved to be shot or hanged. I have zero respect for malevolence and delusion. We're on that same page.
As anyone can see from my postings and comments, I'm all for the abolition of Y'all Qaeda's Nat-C Fascist GOP.
The GOP is the malevolently depraved incestuous step-child of the Nazi's National Socialist Party.
Germany rightly abolished that National Socialist Party long ago simultaneously outlawing Nazi symbology and propaganda.
The United States ought to do the same thing and outlaw all fascist symbology and propaganda associated with all groups, including the GOP, the fascist Confederacy, and any other group that employs fascist reasoning.
Faith rejects doubt, the very basis of reason.
I reject faith in anything.
I embrace doubt in pursuit of reason. It's the very basis of our intellectual abilities. Without doubt we are left with only unfounded suppositions, accusations, and assertions.
Our country's sordid history of supplanting reason with malevolent bigoted "closely held beliefs" continues to come home to roost.
Nat-C Fascists control the House, SCOTUS, nearly all of the southern states and the majority of the heartland.
I place zero stock in predicting whether or not Trump will be arrested.
I merely watch the cards as they're played, and weigh what limited facts and evidence we're allowed to be privy to, with which I then assess whether or not that increases the possibility that might in theory occur.
And, since I'm in an area prone to rash outbreaks of unfettered violence should that occur, I typically weigh those factors daily.
It's about I and mine's personal safety. We may well travel out-of-state to a remote location if and when that does occur.
I've no desire to stick around for Y'all Qaeda Motorcycle Gangs, Crips and Bloods to fight it out in the streets.
So, like you, I have zero "faith" that reason prevails in any given situation. I merely assess the ongoing probability that it may or may not within any given situation as all the factors play out.
It is my desire that reason rule where delusion dwells, because in the absence of reason, the freedoms that we may have previously enjoyed, cease to exist within our daily lives.
Hence, may reason rule!

(156 posts)My only problem is that the NY case is the weakest from what I have heard from the pundits. It will require making a misdemeanor into a felony and that may be a stretch. Turning a NY civil case into an illegal campaign fund issue. Tall order. If they indict and he gets off, it will not look good for the rest of the investigations. He will be emboldened. I only wish that the other stronger cases would be the first to go to the grand jury and hopefully, indictments. But at this point I would be happy with whatever comes of it. The country has waited long enough. I hate that man.
