Just raise the damn debt ceiling.

This is not a real crisis. It is another manufactured crisis created by the Republican Party. If *they* want to cut spending, then all *they* need to do, is to try and incorporate that into their budget for next year. They still control the House, which is the body responsible for controlling the purse strings of the government.

If they are unable to pass their draconian budget due to a lack of votes in the Senate, then they should hit the campaign trail and take their case to the American people. In the meantime, they must pass a budget that is acceptable to the 51st vote in the Senate, and currently that vote is a Democrat. (Although probably a blue dog.)

That's how a democratic republic is supposed to work.

The Republican House should pass a budget that can garner 51 votes in the Senate and scamper past the President's veto pen. They could accomplish that and still pass a pretty conservative budget.

But instead of settling for a fairly conservative budget, they want the whole enchilada. But you don't get that when you don't have the votes for it. Or, at least that's not how it's supposed to work.

It was sent over to the Senate and not acted on. The U.S. has not had a budget for 3 years now. It is operating on a continuing resolution.
