Florida lt. gov. compares governor Scott to MLK

Lieutenant governor Jennifer Carroll of Florida said this today (via WashingtonMonthly.com):

"When the governor selected me to be his running mate, he did not look at the color of my skin," said Carroll, who was the only black Republican in the Legislature in 2010. "He looked at the content of my character and my integrity and work ethic, and what I brought to the table. This is the dream of Dr. King that was realized for me."

But the Washington Monthly post points out instances where Rick Scott, in social settings surrounded by other blacks, boasted about how he grew up poor and had a little-educated father to try to relate to them. In one case he even did that when meeting with students at the historically black Florida A&M University during the hazing scandal.
