PA: Delco Dems Select Heather Boyd As Candidate For HD-163

he field for the special election in the 163rd state House District is set.

Delaware County Democrats tabbed Heather Boyd to be their standard bearer in the May 16 election to replace Mike Zabel, who resigned from the seat on March 16 under allegations of sexual harassment.

Boyd, a former Upper Darby school board member, received 91 percent of the vote from the county Democrats to easily secure the nomination over two other candidates.

“As a former teacher and local mom, I am running to make sure that every person and family in our district gets the resources and representation they deserve,” said Boyd. “I will work tirelessly to make sure residents of the 163rd District have a seat at the table in Harrisburg. Working in the state and federal government, I’ve seen firsthand how listening to the people makes democracy work.”

Boyd has served as chief of staff to Rep. Leanne Krueger (D-Delaware) and more recently as District Director and Senior Advisor for Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (D-05). The chair of the Upper Darby Democratic Committee, she has also taught history and art history at the high school and collegiate level for 10 years.

“We pride ourselves on running an open process and giving all candidates an opportunity,” said Colleen Guiney, chair of the Delco Democrats. “The House majority runs through Delaware County in May and Heather Boyd is the clear and resounding choice of local Democrats.”
