Va. business owner explains decision to close store after Obama win

BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7.com) – The owner of a Bedford jewelry store is explaining his decision to “mourn” the outcome of Tuesday’s Presidential election.

R.T. Lyons, owner of Lyons Jewelry, closed his business Wednesday and posted signs in his windows that read: “Closed to mourn the loss of the America that our forefathers endowed to us.”

Lyons said he was experiencing feelings of grief.

That ugly republican meme about firing your democratic workers, laying people off, cutting off democratic friends and relatives....some idiots seem to have taken that to heart. They'll do themselves more harm in the long run though. Who wants to buy from a misinformed bigot.

First, is he 65 years old or odder or is his health deteriorating?
Second, was his business in financial trouble before 2012?

When we hear stories like this they should be thoroughly investigated. Some old geezer that couldn’t manage his business or just wanted to retire shouldn’t be allowed to blame Obama.

Let's see what kind of profits he is supposedly "abandoning." My guess. There weren't any. No amount of grief over an election causes a Republican to walk away from profits if there are any.

They're not fooling anyone. Their business was already failing and they thought that somehow Romney could magically save them. A successful business wouldn't dream of shutting down preemptively.

A very isolated little town. Yes - they suffered the worst loss of anyone on D-Day but even they don't support the monument.

My in-laws are from Lunchburg (went to high school with Falwell) and the L'burg folks that I have met are really nice people...but they all agree that Bedford is nutsville.

What a fool. This dude is too dimwitted to run a successful business. If he was closing it for good at least he wouldn't have to deal with the fallout from this ridiculous stunt, but now he will. Good. Plenty of smarter people that know better than to alienate half their client base and for something as utterly STUPID as politics should have a shot at owning and running a successful business rather than this buffoon.

grew up in one of the poorest and most racist counties in Indiana. He owned a small business for over 30 years. He always said that at the end of the business day, he couldn’t tell whether the money came from a white customer or “a colored customer” and therefore he had to treat all customer’s with respect. (Please forgive him, he started saying this in the late 50s and CP was the term of respect in those days.)

That's what we called it in my GIA Diamond Grading Class, which sets the industry standard for grading precious stones. A person who appraises jewelry is usually a G.G., Graduate Gemologist. It's a diploma issued by GIA after several courses. I took Diamond Grading and Colored Stone Grading.

Extremely flawed diamonds set in jewelry and not worth buying. Stuff that is a total ripoff and should die and come back as a grinding wheel.

I used to work in a leased (Finlay Co.) "Fine Jewelry" dept in a large chain department store, and I was truly ashamed of what I sold. One lady asked me, "Is this diamond dirty?" because she could see the black spots in it. I wish I could have said "I'm sorry, lady, but this is basically a lump of coal that didn't quite make it into a diamond." A geologist told me that was called "prematurely mined".

All the stuff at the mall stores and dept. stores that advertise at Xmas are total ripoffs.
SI, Slightly Imperfect sounds OK, right? Or I, Imperfect? Both grades are complete trash.
Don't waste your money.

This guy is probably a bad businessman anyway.
