3. Romney is now -and was in 2007 and before - completely bad on foreign policy

Because Romney is from MA and because Kerry is one of the leading Democratic experts on foreign policy, there are many things that were easy to find in the DU JK archives. Here are some of them.

Here is an oped that the Manchester Union paper ran that John Kerry wrote recently that very seriously debunks Romney's current positions. http://thepage.time.com/2012/01/08/kerry-reporting-for-duty/ (Interesting in that it is not written like a typical political attack, but a serious attempt to explain the underlying situations.

In 2009, Romney wrote an oped against START that was full of errors in response to a Kerry oped on why it was important. Here (with links to those) is Kerry taking Romney's response apart. The treaty got more than the 67 votes needed. http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/blogs/the_angle/2010/12/new_start_debat.html?comments=all#readerComm

Here is a DU JK thread from back in 2006, when Romney and Kerry argued over Iraq and Afghanistan. It now being 5 years later, it is very clear how wrong Romney was and how correct Kerry was. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=273&topic_id=98771

What is interesting is that around that time the Boston Herald wrote a very caustic editorial that really went after Romney - as governor and after him lame attempt to gain foreign policy credentials. Oddly it has been disappeared, but parts of it are here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=273&topic_id=88188&mesg_id=88266

Killed the GOP talking points and lies that they have an inkling of what they are doing foreign policy wise or militarily.

btw I notice the Republicans aren't going on and on about the War On Terror like they were the last election. Does that mean Obama has won it?

And the minute Romney tries to make it an issue, Obama can respond with this, which Romney gave to him on a silver platter. Another flip-flip:

BEFORE the death of Osama bin Laden, Romney opposed military raids into Pakistan:

"I do not concur in the words of Barack Obama in a plan to enter an ally of ours... I don't think those kinds of comments help in this effort to draw more friends to our effort."

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is one of the Republican front-runners, said U.S. troops "shouldn't be sent all over the world." He called Obama's comments "ill-timed" and "ill-considered."

"There is a war being waged by terrorists of different types and nature across the world," Romney said. "We want, as a civilized world, to participate with other nations in this civilized effort to help those nations reject the extreme with them."

AFTER Seal Team Six killed Osama bin Laden in exactly the sort of raid into Pakistan Romney opposed, he had this to say:

"This is a great victory for lovers of freedom and justice everywhere. Congratulations to our intelligence community, our military and the president. My thoughts are with the families of Osama bin Laden's many thousands of victims, and the brave servicemen and women who have laid down their lives in pursuit of this murderous terrorist."

The other thing, of course, is to provide ammo Obama can use against Romney, because the American people love warmongering.

Turns out he was eerily prescient and he was bold enough to actually follow through on it when he became POTUS.
