The premier touts American politicians as models for making Alberta free

Premier Danielle Smith says the hard-line Republican governors of Florida and South Dakota are models for making Alberta “a little bastion of freedom.”

“I look at the Americans. I look at Ron DeSantis in Florida and Kristi Noem in South Dakota,” the premier said in the town of Gibbons, northeast of Edmonton, on April 12, as reported by FortSaskOnline.

“They’ve been able to create little bastions of freedom, and we can create a little bastion of freedom in Alberta, as well.”

In the past, Smith also called DeSantis “my hero.” During the pandemic, she argued for special agreements with red states — meaning Republican — to allow travel “with passports” against federal rules.

I can see why she likes de Santis. The two of them have the same level interpersonal skills and charisma. For sure, you could put the two of them in a room and absolutely nothing would happen. Most likely they wold not even say Hi.
