He's currently in court asking for a reduction in what he pays due to less fortunate circumstances .THe mother, Lunden Roberts, apparently wants more.
"Hunter Biden is paying $20,000 a month and has paid $750,000 so far to Roberts, his lawyer said on Monday, publicly revealing the figure for the first time.
A trial is slated for July to determine if his child support payments will be adjusted.
The case is playing out while House Republicans are similarly pursuing many of Hunter Bidens financial records, including many of the same ones that Roberts wants.
Hunter Bidens lawyer, Abbe Lowell, complained at the court hearing Monday about alleged leaks to the press. Lowell, a high-profile DC defense attorney who is now representing Hunter Biden on several fronts, said the press stories were creating the false impression that he is a deadbeat dad.
Its important to let the world know that Hunter Biden is keeping his word and paying his child support, Lowell said. He is paying what he agreed to.

(25,024 posts)$20,000 a month seems absorbent for child support. Sounds like that Mother is blackmailing him.

(12,379 posts)The dispute in this case is about discovery of Hunter's income - or at least should be. The judge is interested in Hunter's assets which really should be irrelevant.
The judge is enjoying the limelight and forcing Hunter to appear in court for a simple discover dispute.

(7,671 posts)If his income has changed, up or down, then it would be normal for the child support to change as well.
But id his income at the time supported a $20k monthly bill, thats the court, not the mom.

(28,455 posts)It has nothing to do with child support.
And, until he had financial issues, this is 100% fair. It is fair and proper for the child to have as close a lifestyle as possible if teh parents were still together in one household.
Careful, this is VERY close to what the Red Pillers say.

On edit: No, I am not calling the poster a Red Piller, I am saying this is almost exactly what they say about child support, so be careful.

I'm not humble-bragging. I'm agog a court would say a single child needs that much per month.

(79,957 posts)Hunter Biden has asked a judge to prevent his four-year-old daughter from using his surname.
President Joe Bidens son is in the midst of a court case to lower child support payments to ex Lunden Roberts, with whom he had a child, Navy Joan Roberts, in 2018.
In late December, Ms Roberts asked Circuit Court Judge Holly Meyer to allow their daughter to use the Biden name, claiming it would be beneficial to the girl later in life.
She argued the name is now synonymous with being well educated, successful, financially acute and politically powerful and it would open up opportunities for Navy, just like it has for other members of the Biden family.

No one is responsible for their kids after a certain age, but this is very unfortunate.

(3,557 posts)Thats for two kids. My ex also gets another $1,500 a month in alimony from me each month, but Ill be done paying that in a couple of months.
I will say my kids are always taken care of and I fully agreed to the terms of our divorce. I could have fought the numbers and reduced it, but ultimately it was more important to me for my children to be taken care of and for my children to see and know that I would always make sure they were provided for.
Aside from a financial hit, divorce has been great for all us (my children and myself). I see my children 3-4 nights a week and I live a 10 minute walk from their mother. My ex and I still get along well enough and we still get together for various family functions. My children flat out say theyre happier after the divorce than before. I might not see my kids every day, but the quality of time I spend with them is much better. When theyre at my place, we are always doing something together.
Youre not a deadbeat for going through the proper channels to reduce your support obligation so long as nobody is lying about their income sources and your children are being provided for.

(96,800 posts)Regarding such legal/domestic separations. You have done well and if the kids are happier after, that's a good thing. When in a marriage that isn't working out, the tension is always high and the kids feel it. I'm glad that your family figured out how to go forward in a good way for all of you.

(3,169 posts)Courts got tired of men deciding to quit their jobs so they could claim to having no income in response to alimony or child support payments. If the courts have reason to suspect that his loss of income was voluntary, then he'll have to keep paying the same rate.

(7,794 posts)The very idea of $20K child support is perverse. These people are totally outside the realm of reality where 99% of the US population live, and some are struggling to get by. How can they interact with our society when their definitions of value are so horribly skewed with pointless abundance?
It's the inequitable distribution of wealth which will destroy the country and the solution is NOT some childish fantasy that somehow everybody can be rich if they try. So long as there remains such a difference in wealth the fault lies in our rates of taxation. When that remediation yields the consequence that our society is still despicable even in a state of universal financial security then it's time for the west to pay back the third world where our wealth is mined and manufactured by poverty so bone deep as to be unimaginable.
Sorry if I seem harsh but if others had seen what I've seen they'd tend to agree.

(7,794 posts)It is that the outrage of extreme wealth inequality should haunt everyone's waking moment so long as it exists. It must be minimized if the species is to survive. The accepted equities regarding child support and inheritance statutes are but dust and dross in comparison.

It is not clear what school she was attending to get her masters degree. Public records show she was living in D.C. and Virginia from 2015 to 2018.

Is half the father that our president is, I'm sure he's doing everything right for his child. Us democrats consistently prove that we're better dads than the right could ever hope to be.
