I think her dad was wildly overestimating how many conservatives are Taylor fans.

Was this before or after, "You Need to Calm Down," (2019) came out? I'm guessing just before since she's talking about not saying anything two years ago as that would probably mean 2016, which meant this was 2018.

Tue May 2, 2023, 07:24 PM
May 2023

turned 50, which he did in 2017) in 2018 (The Blue Wave) would likely not be a US mega MAGAt Senator today. It was an open seat, and yet McGraw refused to run against that vile creature. In 2020 it was also an open seat for the other TN US Senate slot, and McGraw again refused to run. I SO wish he would run in 2024 against white trash white power, christofash Blackburn, but I doubt he will. His promises seem to have been empty for all those years.

I am so disappointed in all of the following:

McGraw (twice in 2018 and 2020) refused to run

Stephen King in ME, in 2020, who would have likely defeated Concern Collins, refused to run

Sebelius in KS, in 2020, the first really good chance we had of winning a Senate seat (and it was another OPEN seat) for KS in over 50 years and likely 90 years, refused to run

Vilsack, IA 2020, as a very popular ex IA governor, plus also Axne (both would have been better candidates than Greenfield) both refused to run against a weak Ernst (she was very unpopular then)

Begich in 2020 AK (and he had already previously won a US Senate seat before there) refused to run, and thus we had NO Dem candidate, thus a weak indie, Gross, lost.

and finally

In NC, Jeff Jackson (my favourite) plus Stein and Foxx all refused to run against the very very weak Tillis (other than Cory Gardner in CO, Tillis was the weakest Rethug running in 2020, and Gardner's biggest issue was CO is now sold deep Blue, so Tillis was likely the pure worst candidate for Rethug incumbents running for Senate), thus we got stuck with the sexting scandal/adultery scandal Cal Cunningham, who blew up his campaign and lost a decent lead and blew the election.
six 2020 elections where we failed to field decent candidates and lost them all, with great candidates refused to run.

If we had just won TWO of those 6 (OR, if McGraw had ran and won 2 years earlier, when he had an even better chance of winning) won ONE of those 6, we would have had 52 seats post election, thus very little (or likely none) of the Manchin and Sinema destruction that they did, (and it was massive). I think we, in reality, would have ended up with 53 or 54 Dems, TBH, had all of the top candidates listed above run. We also, at a national level, failed to support Bullock in Montana against the weak Daines, and to a less extent, Greenfield in IA. Bullock had a decent lead (and Greenfield has a slim one at times) until they both got buried in 100 million dollars or so of RW, late, dark money-fuelled massive attack adverts. People wasted over 100 million in excess contributions contributing to wish-fulfillment pipe dream races in SC, TX, KY, and to a lesser extent, Gideon taking on Collins in ME (Gideon was a non native Mainer, which, combined with Manchin endorsing Collins so she could pump up her fake AF 'I am totally bipartisan!' bullshit, was used to smash Gideon). All of those Dem campaigns had so much money wastefully given to them that they had tens of millions that was never spent, whilst MT and IA bled out. The national apparatus did a poor job in both candidate recruitment and funding distribution.

It has all vexed me for 3 (and in McGraw's case, 5) years

Tue May 2, 2023, 08:16 PM

Who is the person the party wanted to run. We know how that turned out. Then in 2022, he WAS running and was pushed out by the party so that Cheri Beasley could run.
The moral of this story is that Jeff Jackson won his race in 2020 (state seat) and in 2022 for The House, but we have 2 GOP Senators in races the party didn't want him running in.

Tue May 2, 2023, 09:32 PM

got involved on that, it was what it was. I was aware he did step aside for Beasley, and 2022 was not as easy a race as 2020 (Tillis was such a weak candidate), IMHO, so I cannot say he would have won for sure, but he probably would have performed better than Beasley did. I am pretty good ate Senate predictions (NC 2020 was the only sate I called wrong 30 days out, I fell off the Gideon bandwagon after reading a long detailed post by a Maine resident about Maine's quirkiness in regards to the native issue with Gideon, plus bloody Manchin endorsing Collins to boost her phony moderate/bi-partisan gaslighting) and I never had that much confidence Beasley could pull off a win.

NC so frustrates me, as besides my Senate frustrations, there are far more Dems registered than Rethugs, YET (like Wisconsin) they have super majorities in both State legislative chambers due to insane RW gerrymandering, In fact that now dead (died in 2018) RW fuck, Thomas Hofeller from NC, was THE godfather of modern Rethug scientific gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Good article on that POS:

Deceased G.O.P. Strategist’s Hard Drives Reveal New Details on the Census Citizenship Question

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/30/us/census-citizenship-question-hofeller.html

I am sure you know all this btw., I just often write my posts for others to read who may not be so familiar with certain things.

NC is also a HUGE target for me in my long term 'turn pinkish/purplish states to perma Blue' dreams (same for AZ, GA and then perma shore up NH, NV, VA, MI, PA, and NE-2, plus claw back WI and ME-2). I have never had much hope for the fools gold that is TX, and now I have done the same for FL. OH, IN, MO, ND, SD, NE (other than NE-2) KS, IA, KY, AR, TN (other than McGraw maybe stealing a Senate seat) and OK are lost causes now for decades, most have been for a long time.

I do think that if Cunningham had thought with his brain and not his bellend, he probably would have flopped over the finish line the winner in 2020.

I want to stress that I am not as upset with the NC Dems who sat out 2020 (mainly due to the fact that Cunningham's late sex scandal implosion was never envisioned by anyone, we are not mind readers nor have crystal balls) as I am with 2018 McGraw (2020 was a bit harder election, as there was no Blue Wave and the Rethugs had a better candidate for that open seat) plus Sebelius in KS (most of the local KS state gurus said not only was she the only Dem who could win, but she very likely would have been the over favourite to win, as it was an open seat and Marshall was a fairly weak candidate according to the local Kansas experts), and then Stephen King in ME, who I am very convinced would have defeated Concern Collins (he is a Maine native, unlike Gideon, and he is wildly popular there).

IA was disappointing too (just not as much as the 4 states above), as I think Vilsack (and he is not amongst my overall favourite Dems, so I am not a fangurl hyping him, but it is ruby Red Iowa after all, so of course it takes a centrist/moderate type to win there and Vilsack would never go full Manchin/Sinema, lolol) might well have pulled it out against the turgid Ernst, especially if we funded him better than we did Greenfield and also Bullock in MT.

Alaska with Begich was the least likely, but he had won an AK US Senate seat before, and at least we would have had a Dem candidate and not just tossed our only hopes into the indie Al Gross's very likely to fail lap. Dan Sullivan is a true prick.

I know it is a crazy idea but her campaign appearances would be lit! Standing room only!

Go for it! Use your strength of voice for good girl! It’s interesting how dad wants to protect his little girl from the MAGAs. He’s right too!

Because I sure haven't seen her emerge as a loud voice against the MAGA movement.

She could do so much more. As with other celebrities that have universal appeal. Few of them are willing to lose half or even a third of their audience.

Very few have the courage of a Jimmy Kimmel for instance. Who was even told by ABC to not pick on Trump so much, so he wouldn't lose ratings. But he said f you to them. And has been one of the most relentless and funny Trump-centric comedians.

three straight nights at Mercedes-Benz stadium here in Atlanta last week. Probably could have sold out the month of May.

And I know her father has some real concerns...armored cars for god's sake...but I am very proud of her for standing for HER beliefs. She's absolutely right. These people aren't Christian. Some of what they say is the most un-Christlike rhetoric there is and I'm glad she's throwing the bullshit flag!

You go, Tay Tay!!!

Made the year before, named from a song from her 2019 album "Lover". The song was about her dismay at Republican politics. Hence her stand against Marsha Blackburn.
Taylor Swift has consistently tried to get her fans to get out and vote since then. And she has put out 3 original albums , one of which won an album of the year Grammy. And two album remakes as well. And more Grammy awards, including this year.
Good for her.

She came home a FAN.

Miss Swift will only gain fans if she stands up to Martha Blackburn.

BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She's RIGHT PERIOD................................

Nothing more to say. Taylor - liberate yourself and stop paying attention to what your dad even thinks. You are so much more and so much more important.

Look what happened to the Dixie Chicks when they spoke up and didn’t get any support. She knows that business can be fickle and cruel but she put out her convictions and wanted her dad to go along and if not, she’s sorry but she’s gonna carry on. Her music is not my genre but her principles and her determination to be heard has my support and respect. It’s their future..they need to change what they don’t like..we tried once or twice but their battles are even more dire than ours were.

The clip is from a professionally filmed documentary. Somewhere on it's trip from that to TikTok to Twitter it got shrunk down. Not sure if it's a video format conversion, or resampling, or what, but it is annoying.

You see a similar effect on a lot of Youtube videos, especially the ones that are straight rips from TikTok.

I stopped watching Keith Olberman b/c he always looks like he's leaning up against a door in those darn vertical videos. And the fuzzy stuff on the sides of some of them is really distracting. But it's the trend, probably brought to us by one of those social media platforms. I know YouTube shorts are required to be vertical for some dumb-ass reason.
