County Commissioner

The Board of Commissioners constitutes the chief governing body of the County. The three elected at large members perform the executive and legislative functions of county government. The Commissioners serve four year terms.

Register of Wills

The Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphan’s Court is an elected official who serves as a dual officeholder and whose primary function is to determine whether the document offered for probate should be received as the last will of the decedent.

Sheriff

The office is responsible for elements of criminal court, civil court, enforcement of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code and Motor Vehicle Code, and has a licensing issuance and enforcement function.

Clerk of Courts

The Clerk of Courts prepares and maintains the records for the Criminal Division of the Court of Common Pleas. The Clerk signs and affixes the Seal of the Courts to all writs and processes, administers oaths and affirmations, and assumes custody of the seal and records of the Court.

This office works closely with over 40 local police departments, state and federal law enforcement to ensure the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are upheld and that our citizens are protected. County Treasurer

The Treasurer is the custodian of the County money. The Treasurer collects real estate taxes, fees and receipts to disburse all funds after authorization by the Controller and the Commissioners. This department also issues licenses for Bingo, Small Games of Chance, hunting, fishing, dogs, boats, and pistol permits (when used in conjunction with hunting and fishing).

Magisterial District Judge (MDJ)

Magisterial District Court is the first level of judicial authority in Pennsylvania and is the court where most people experience the judicial system for the first time. Magisterial District Judges handle all traffic cases, minor criminal cases, and civil cases involving amounts up to $12,000. Magisterial District Judges also set bail and conduct preliminary hearings in misdemeanor and felony criminal cases to determine if the cases should be dismissed or transferred to the Court of Common Pleas for further proceedings.
