General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI don't read "this guy DEMOLISHES... or "OBLITERATES..." posts anymore.
Always turns out the person I wanted to see demolished or obliterated is in fact alive, well, and still in business doing what they've been doing.

(92,554 posts)The last time I felt comfortable was when Obama was President
Dont get me wrong, we are very fortunate to have Biden, but with the close margins in Congress, it has not been comfortable
When McConnell and the repukes blocked President Obamas SC appointment in his final term, that set the stage for what was coming down the road
Biden s interview tonight with Stephanie Ruhle gave me hope when President Biden said he would not take the 14th amendment off the table to raise the debt ceiling. It is clear that for some time that we need to push back hard against the lawlessness that has engulfed the Republican Party.

(11,419 posts)but, in fairness - oftentimes this is the title that the clip comes with.
Still a large pain in the ass - but sometimes not at the hands of the poster - who just might think there is something relevant or useful embedded somewhere in the 'DESTROYED' content.
(and then sometimes - I think it just doesn't bother certain posters that they're effectively 'spamming' the site)

(4,741 posts)I don't like people manipulating me to get attention, and that's all these hyperbolic descriptors are--attention-seekers.
It's fine to add additional commentary to someone making a great point or response to something stupid or awful, but it's another thing to bring that kind of cheap one-upmanship hyperbole into it. I find it as vulgar as I do exasperating.
I blame sports and America's brainless sitcoms for the trend.

(1,866 posts)I used to get all excited that Karma was finally catching up to Trump and the rest of the Magats, but now I realize it's just click baiting. Trump is still not in prison, and none his butt kissers have lost their congressional seats, yet. So I don't appreciate the false raising of my hopes.
Let's save those kind of headlines for when & if those things actually happen

(4,274 posts)lots of examples of videos that have "Rare" in the title and are things like supposedly John Lennon singing "Let It Be". Only he never did and it's just AI generated crap. Deep fakes. The first one I caught was months ago that was supposedly Dave Brubeck and his guys performing a particular song live. After just a few seconds I realized it was Brubeck etc. on the video but it was a recording by a completely different group. I saw one for Dylan also where he was supposedly singing some odd song but it was completely fake.
Many of us remember the ads on TV for K-Tel records where they would be compilations of the hits of the day. They would list the original artists but the actual performers on the record were just people you never heard of doing a cover of the song. K-Tel knew you would never buy another record from them but they weren't about repeat business. Take the money and run.

(16,677 posts)I watched one tonight with the title "Jamie Raskin DEMOLISHES Lauren Boebert and the GQP," and it was worth it for the great clips of Jamie Raskin responding to a speech given by Bobo on the House floor. There was a little bit of Bobo in the beginning, but most of it was Raskin, and he was on fire!
The problem is, you never can tell with these things. I happened to get lucky with that one, but there have been a lot of others I only watched a little bit of, once I saw that they consisted of a tiny clip or 2 buried in the middle of someone pontificating for several minutes on What It All Meant. Those are the ones that feel like a waste of time to me.
I do NOT fault anyone for posting these, though. I assume good intentions on the part of my fellow DUers, and I am seldom disappointed. People who come here with genuinely bad intentions usually get caught and banned early on. (Go, MIRT!) The ones that stick around seem to post things for the same reason I do; because they got something out of an item and think someone else might as well. Sometimes people guess wrong, but so what? I've guessed wrong myself. Far be it from me to beat up on anybody else for doing the same.
