(53,061 posts)Sunak is unlikely to remain PM much longer.
The Conservative Party lost 1000 Council positions this week.

(53,061 posts)Reports that the negative economic effects of Brexit are starting to arrive and it's going to be a disaster for whoever has to pay that bill. Interesting that the Liberal Democrats split the gain with Labour.

(10,303 posts)My "hometown" has generally been bluer than blue politically (blue being Conservative) and typically the opposition has been historically the Liberals - obviously now Liberal Democrats. Resident Association candidates have been on the rise (not quite independent, generally centrist or centre-right candidates). Labour and Green party candidates exist but don't do well.
Looking at the results, it feels like the mid 1990s politically again. The south of England is no longer blue. If Lib Dems can win they will. If Labour can win, they will. The Greens can do well too. Anyone except the Tories. One of my favourite headlines was "Lewes Conservatives Totally Wiped Out" - after they lost all 18 seats they were defending. The electorate seems to be backing tactical voting - to vote the Tories out.
A new wrinkle was voter ID requirements. People were turned away from voting, not even able to cast a provisional ballot (not a thing in England).
There will be a general election no later than January 2025 and at this rate I'm sure Rishi Sunak will be re-evaluating his political future after the election. However unlike 1997 Labour have been totally decimated in Scotland and won't have a number of Scottish Labour MPs to help create a Labour majority. Unless Labour can get a majority, it will need other parties to prop it up - I see a Labour minority government running with a supply and confidence measure by the SNP and possibly the Lib Dems (the Lib Dems won't go into coalition again in a hurry, they learned their lesson the last time - I hope!) - and the price for that supply measure by the SNP will be another independence referendum. One I think the SNP might win this time.

(2,884 posts)Jill Biden's is always so open and expressive, as is Murthy's, and the Princess of Wales. I feel a little sorry for Finnegan. From her body language, it seems like she might feel overwhelmed by everything. She's keeping her arms and hands in close to her body, a sign of insecurity. She pulls everything off beautifully, tho. Stands straight and tall and proud, and even tho her body language speaks of possible insecurity, she leans in to express interest. This young lady has a good future ahead of her! And FLOTUS just blows everything away. I'm so proud of her!
