Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tells Illinois crowd that Biden's reelection would leave US 'unrecognizabl

PEORIA, Ill. — Ahead of the expected launch of a bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis warned a central Illinois audience of GOP faithful Friday night that if President Joe Biden is reelected and other Democrats also win office, “the country is going to be unrecognizable.”

In a speech of about 40 minutes inside an airy ballroom at the Peoria Civic Center, DeSantis blamed Democrats for “obliterating communities throughout this country,” including Chicago, while promoting his own policies in the areas including education and criminal justice that are meant to counter a “woke ideology.”

He boasted about his landslide reelection win last year against a Democratic challenger, and proclaimed his policies superior to those in other states, especially Illinois.

“We have no state income tax. You should try it sometime,” DeSantis said to an applause from the more than 1,000 attendees at the annual Lincoln Day fundraising dinner of the Peoria and Tazewell County GOP organizations. He did not note that Florida’s lack of a state income tax long predated his administration.

Have shocking property tax rates and charge crazy fees for assorted services or licenses that are often equal to or higher than what people in state income tax locales pay.

The ex makes close to what my mother did before she retired. He lives in urban CA, in a house larger than hers, and about 4 times the tax-assessed value. His state income + property taxes are less than what my mother is paying for property tax alone in her "no income tax" state. He does pay far more for his car registration, but, even with that cost thrown in, it's not enough to equal what her property taxes alone cost.

He certainly gets more bang for his tax buck in CA than she does. Other than the local schools, little goes to improving the infrastructure and civic needs of her location. I suspect that the biggest expenditure where she is consists of lining the pockets of traitor party nabobs, and not on helping people.

I don't know it for a fact, but what people pay there for property taxes does not show up in a way one would expect.
