Ain't that America? "A black journalist booed by a white audience in a deep South state on MLK Day"

Newt Gingrich Seeks South Carolina Boost From Racially Charged Exchange With Juan Williams

First Posted: 1/17/12 01:16 AM ET Updated: 1/17/12 02:22 AM ET

Gingrich, the recently embattled, always controversial and irascible former speaker of the House from Georgia, had just watched a massive crowd inside the convention center respond to him with a passionate standing ovation after his confrontation with one of the debate's moderators.

***

Gingrich channeled resentment felt by some whites about political correctness with a salvo aimed at President Obama, followed by a high-minded summary of his own ideals.

"First of all, Juan, the fact is that more people have been put on food stamps by Barack Obama than any president in American history," Gingrich said. "Now, I know among the politically correct you're not supposed to use facts that are uncomfortable."

***

It was a moment that will likely be dissected, debated and discussed for some time: a black journalist being booed by an overwhelmingly white audience in a deep South state on Martin Luther King Day, as a white candidate for president talked about the work ethic in low-income, majority black neighborhoods. It's hard to imagine a more charged few minutes in public life in recent memory.

That way, it really does look like Obama crashed the economy. I mean, Clinton left office with a booming economy and budget surpluses, and then all of a sudden it goes to crap when Obama gets into office. Yes, the calendar skipped 8 fucking years and went straight to 2009 from 2001.

How is a kid going to support his family on $5.15 an hour for 3-4 hours a day after school, Newt?

this isn't about work ethic- this is about killing unions- that's what this is about.
this isn't about poverty- this is about getting white voters who hate black people on your side.

And all on MLK Day! Well now! I'm sure Stormfront is real happy today!

the hatred and vitriol aimed at President Obama, from the Birthers to the TeaBaggers, it's always, always been about the fact they can't stand having a black man in the White House built by black slaves.

Last night, when this obscene display of racism was on display during the GOP showcase, it was proven beyond any reasonable doubt to anyone who's paying attention.

I knew the moment he asked that question last night that he'd probably need extra security leaving that arena last night...

He climbed into bed with a group that will never accept him.

I'll never forget the night of the 2008 Election when all those white faces turned to him on the panel and sneered about "one of his" winning.
