Obama to again accept nomination in football stadium

Another big stadium speech for President Obama.

The Charlotte Observer is reporting that Obama will accept the Democratic nomination at Bank of America stadium in downtown Charlotte, N.C., the home of the Panthers NFL football team.

The Democratic convention itself will be held at nearby Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte.

In 2008, then-Sen. Barack Obama gave his convention address at the pro football stadium in Denver.

This year's acceptance speech will be delivered on Sept. 6.

From the Observer:

The move, which would open the speech to the public, is designed to help mobilize voters in North Carolina, a key swing state. It could also serve as a perk to donors, who could be rewarded with skybox seats.

"I think this would be a great opportunity to have tens of thousands of North Carolinians and others outside of the state to see and participate in the convention process," said Ed Turlington, a party official from Raleigh and a member of the convention's host committee.

Good thing the phonebook's missing...

"911, what is the nature of your emergency?"

"I'm proud to accept the nomination of the Republican party and together, my friends, we will sweep to victory in November!"

"Thank you, sir, please stay on the line until help arrives."

USA Today picked up the story but their headline is "Obama to again accept nomination in football stadium".

Of course they're going to write an article with lots of insinuations buried in carefully worded paragraphs. Subliminal messages work!

Thanks for the correction, Enrique.

objective reporting?? Seriously?

There was no need for them to headline their piece with "Obama to speak at Bank of America stadium" considering the anti-bank bailout sentiment among the Republicans. That was not objective reporting by any stretch of the imagination.

We have the CenturyLink Center here (used to be the Qwest Center). When it was originally built, our local paper refused to call it the Qwest Center (thereby giving free advertising). Instead, they called it the "Omaha Convention Center and Arena." Surprisingly, it lasted a year before they finally gave in to the public calling them dumbasses over it. Thus, I would expect a local paper to call it by its name.
