(146,018 posts)Remember the idiotic letter that TFG's attorney sent to the House Intelligence Committee. In that letter, TFG's attorneys claimed that all of the classified documents ended up at Mar-a-Lago by accident due to a hurried job of packing. TFG just contradicted that letter at the CNN townhall when TFG admitted that he took the documents and had the right to take these documents.
One of the authors of that letter is Parlatore which explains why he resigned. Here is a description of some of the stupid claims made in that letter. This is a very stupid move by TFG. Congress has no power to block the DOJ/Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation. This filing contains admissions that Jack Smith will be able to use against TFG. I hope that this is a stunt that TFG demanded because

Lawyers for former President Donald J. Trump asked lawmakers on Wednesday to place the intelligence community in charge of assessing Mr. Trumps handling of the classified documents found in his possession after leaving office, saying Congress should strip the Justice Department of authority to run the investigation.
If this sounds outlandish, thats because it is. In a 10-page letter to the House Intelligence Committee, Trumps lawyers in all seriousness argued that they believe a legislative solution by Congress is required to prevent federal prosecutors from pursuing the case further.
The letter proposed that the Justice Department should be ordered to stand down......
University of Michigan law professor Barbara McQuade, a former U.S. Attorney and an MSNBC legal analyst, added this morning, Surely, they know this request is a non-starter that would violate separation of powers. This looks more like a PR move on the eve of indictment.
In this letter, TFG's attorney admits that TFG has classified documents "that the White House staff simply swept all documents from the Presidents desk and other areas into boxes."

This is absolutely wild.
In a letter to the GOP chair of the House Intelligence Committee, two of Donald Trumps defense lawyers argue that the fact Trump may have these classified briefings indicates that the White House staff simply swept all documents from the Presidents desk and other areas into boxes.
In defending Trump they may have just made it even worse for him.
Trumps attorneys wrote the letter to urge Congress to tell the Justice Department to stand down.
TFG gutted the authors of this letter which is why this attorney resigned
