I just can't at this point

Mr. Kucinich has long been known as one of the foremost progressive voices in American politics. In 1977 he became, at age 31, the mayor of the city of Cleveland and one of the youngest big-city mayors ever. In 1996 he was elected to the House of Representatives, where he served for 16 years.
During his time in Congress, Kucinich led the effort against the Iraq War and the Patriot Act, and served as the chair of the progressive caucus. He competed in the Democratic Presidential primary in 2004 and 2008. He is the author of several books, including the acclaimed The Division of Light and Power.
Due to his early opposition to the Iraq War, free trade agreements, and the surveillance state, and his support for huge investments in infrastructure, Mr. Kucinich has earned a reputation as one of Americas most prescient politicians. In 2018 the Washington Post called him the future of American politics.

'Dennis Kucinich has been an iconoclast from his earliest days as boy mayor of Cleveland, when he took on big banks and survived a recall election. On the campaign trail, he's espousing liberal ideas such as fracking and assault weapons bans.
But he's also struggled to explain statements and associations that many Democrats might find troubling.
They include his multiple defenses of President Donald Trump, his unwillingness to condemn Syrian dictator Bashir al Assad and his presence on the board of a foundation started by a former Texas congressman who published a racist newsletter.'

Really too bad.

But if we don't examine candidate records and make a good faith effort to understand what the job of president requires... Just imagine if those who voted for tRump while knowing/admitting nothing real about him had written in their dog's name instead.
When I gave close attention to Cucinich, my takeaway was that, though well meaning, he'd already demonstrated the Peter Principle in action during his time in the house.
I'm sorry to hear someone known as a onetime Democratic presidential candidate has sunk so low as this, though. Embarrassing.

(8,361 posts)Kennedy is unfit to serve. I don't care what he calls himself, Dem, Independent or whatever. Unfit, period.

(8,361 posts)He was never a serious contender for POTUS imo...that is not what I liked about him. I respected him and a few others for their moral leadership here, when others would not. Back then I doubt Kucinich would ever have supported a man like Kennedy, but people change and I have no idea what happened to him....sad.

Last week when Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) held a news conference to tout the growing momentum for his resolution calling for the impeachment of Vice President Cheney, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) stood by his side.

(21,813 posts)they would pose no problems. But I suspect that they are being funded and encouraged by RWers to pull votes away from Biden.
There is zero chance that they will get the Democratic nomination. But they will arouse interest from very idealistic people on the far left, the kind who would sit home and pout on general election day because their "perfect" primary candidate did not win the party's nomination.
The RWers are trying to split the Dem vote by promoting Kennedy/Kucinich.

(59,511 posts)I remember in early 2005 when I joined that he was still viewed by a very dedicated group here as a hero. Looking back at 2004 posts, he was at some points the top one or two people wanted in the primary.
I also remember watching a very long CSPAN show covering a few Iowa primary caucuses. I had turned it on to learn more about the process, but ended up watching it for hours because I was fascinated. As to his team's political acumen, I remember that a few very unconvincing DK people trying to win over random people caucusing for others arguing that they could get him over the threshold (that they had failed on the first round) rather than joining any other team.
I remember DK staying in that race - with no delegates and almost no polling - until near the end. He was even more pathetic in 2008, but it was his complete unhelpfulness in the Congress after 2009 that I remember most. I remember he even had some dispute with the cafeteria there. It was not a surprise that he lost his seat in a primary race.
I honestly can not imagine who wrote the WP description of him as the "future of American politics" in 2018, when he was a had been who never really was.

(34,142 posts)I caucused for him in the state caucus. I had the numbers behind me as did a few others to be there. They reluctantly let us in the door, we had more than enough voters to qualify, and told us we would not be speaking or allowed to ask questions but we were allowed to stay and cast our vote for Kerry.
I did not love or hate Kerry and voted for him in the general without a bad feeling at all but that was a disgusting turn of what I thought the Democrats were in my state. It has changed from then.
He always had some crazy but all in all I thought he could move the country a little toward peace and not hurt anyone in the process.
I started getting mail from him just recently and was worried he was going to run again but this? Oh HELL no. That is all I have to say about this pairing.
