NEW YORK, May 18 (Reuters) - CNN is getting more Republicans on the air as it seeks political diversity, the chief executive of parent company Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O) said on Thursday, adding he and CNN chief Chris Licht have told Republicans theyre not going to get one more vote on Fox News.
Our view is there's advocacy networks on either side," Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav said at the SVB MoffettNathanson Technology, Media and Telecom Conference. "We have the best journalists in the world. We need to show both sides of every issue.

(766 posts)I'd been avoiding CNN since they gave wall to wall coverage to the Biden classified document story.
Zaslov has actually turned CNN into an advocacy network. He's hoping Trump or DeSantis becomes president and rolls back everything the Biden administration has done to create a fairer economy.

(49,010 posts)RepubliConners get enough free air time as it is, especially if you factor in Fox, ONAN, and NewsMax.
The media fear lack of access. They don't know their own power to shame. Is that for the best? I don't know. But if they did shame politicians afraid of being confronted, they would get lots of access and appearances where they could ask actually hard questions. Repeating them when dodged. Following up. That's the kind of drama that makes ratings.
It would take time, like half an hour (22 minutes) with a politician. The pols could have time to put forward positive cases for their political agenda, but should be cut off when they start dwelling on criticisms of the opposition.
Slogan could be something like "We give the politicians time for positives but we do our job to hold them to account" (too wordy).
Let the pols motivate positively or not at all.
It's the media's job to ask hard questions and probe negatives.
Reduce polarization and raise ratings.

(10,053 posts)Not when one party is allergic to truth and are white supremist and who supported an insurrection against their own institution, then try to gaslight America. It does not work when they put them on the air and let them spew those lies, with little to no push back.

Both siderism is not balanced.
It essentially diminishes good and promotes evil.
And we see you, CNN.

(14,275 posts)I get more straight news from low budget podcasters on YouTube. It will be an extremely long time before I ever watch CNN again. Chris Licht has cratered my trust in CNN so much that his removal won't even bring me back until they painstakingly earn their viewers back with truth and actual news.
It took decades to build and maintain their brand. Licht pissed it all away in a few months.

(3,635 posts)in the way that maybe the MSM thinks it does. The 'Republicans' they put on are not what the party is now - which is basically a weird blend of RW freaks engaging in performative politics. So no matter what CNN does, it won't increase RW viewership, as even FOX is too 'moderate' for such viewers.
